My Safe won't open. Honeywell 2087D

Well i returned the first one because i figured it was a defective but now my 2nd one is having the same exact issue.

Its a Honeywell 2087D with an electronic keypad and i can't get it to open with the keypad. I used the key fine and the lock has no problems there but i can't get any click of the lock by entering the so called factory code which is * 159 #

I have tried this so many different ways and i can't figure it out still. I even followed the actual manual with the 2nd safe because i thought i must have skipped something by just doing it my way.

I put the batteries in, pulled the activation pin, and tried to cycle the lock like it said. It says to hit the door pin so that you can manually open the bolts while the door is open. Then i open the keypad and enter the code and it beeps on every key so i know i am hitting it right, but when i finish the code i can't turn the handle still. Have tried moving the handle in any direction but nothing.


Any ideas, i am stuck with a 100 pound paperweight. Well at least it works with a key, but its very slow to open with that.

Start off with a wow.... So i fixed it and heres what happened.

I decided to ditch my new name brand alkaline batteries i was using in the safe and try the 4 heavy duty generic batteries that came with the safe and VOILA.... It opens!

So i broke out my multi-meter to see what was up and......

1 of the 4 batteries was a dud!

All read strong at 1.6volts except the dud that was only 1.1v

It was enough to beep the keypad but not enough to open the safe.

So i carried a 100 pound safe back to the store and up and down 3 flights of stairs and extra time for nothing!

Wow.. Glad to hear you got it working...
That looks like a bigger safe than just a pistol safe..
I hope you have bolted it down somewhere so someone doesn't just pick it up and carry it off..

Thanks for your update. I guess that will make me aware anytime something like that happens to check the batteries.

It will make me check my batteries every time with my multi-meter before i put them into something critical like a safe.


And also it is bigger than a pistol box, but it was on such a good sale it has features of a pistol box more expensive than itself.

Its got the fireproof for 1 hour, waterproof, and just being 100 pounds and large makes it very hard to steal.

Glad you got it worked out. I woulda replaced the batteries first. Sometimes they hang around in the store for months before being sold.

They were all marked with the newest date. 6 years from todays date or so, so they are pretty much new for alkaline. I think it was just one of those rare things, because i have never had a dud from a major brand battery like Duracell or Eneregizer.

I had the same problem with a computer's wireless mouse. It kept telling me that I had weak batteries even after I installed new ones straight out the pack just purchased. I took out the name brand batteries and went and got some heavy duty off brand ones and dam* it worked. Must be a name brand battery thing, huh?:laugh:

It is the only time i have ever had a dud in a name brand Alkaline packs. I bet in your case the same thing happened.... 1 dud in your mouse and it read as low. If it was a single or dual battery mouse, either way a single dead battery would do the same thing.

You should have broke out the multi-meter and you would have seen if it was giving a strong 1.6+ volts like all AA are supposed to.

That is true, I haven't had that problem anymore. It was probably a one in a million thing, also I didn't even think about checking the battery. The mouse does take two AA batteries. I just used the "weak" batteries in a flashlight and to be honest forgot all about them. :biggrin:

The problem with a dead battery in something like a flashlight is it could cause a rupture due to the difference in charge levels; especially in high drain devices like a krypton bulb flashlight. That is why they always say never mix new and old batteries.
