My primary CCW question

All,

I bought my wife a S&W 9mm shield for her CCW, and now I am looking for one for me. I have narrowed it down to the Walther PPS, Springfield XD subcompact 9mm, or the Springfield XDS 9mm. These are the only 3 guns I am considering for a number of reasons. I am most interested in reliability, accuracy, and support in the event of defects or technical issues. I'm hoping I get some people who have owned all of these guns, and I would like their opinion. Thanks...

Again, please only comment on these choices.

I have both a Springfield XDM and a XDS Mod2 in 9mm. Both are high quality handguns backed by a lifetime warranty. They are both reliable and accurate. I have had no issues with either one. I hear and read that Springfield is really good about and issues and taking care of problems. They are both great to carry and I have one or the on my side everyday. The Mod 2 is a dream to carry. I use a Blackhawk Serpa holster with them. Also when you buy a Springfield you always get at least extra mag a mag loader a holster a cleaning brush and a lock. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a Springfield. cpljim

Which ones have you fired and which one were you most comfortable with? I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will risk their lives on a gun based solely on advertising and/or on how well the gun worked for someone else. If your neighbor down the street was exceedingly satisfied with his Hyundai Elantra, and it had a great reliability record, would that make it a great car for you? Of course not, yet thousands and thousands of people continue to choose guns in that manner. I hope you've fired these guns you're considering. If not, please try to before making up your mind. Those are all great guns, but when it comes to guns, what works well for one person definitely does not necessarily work well for the next person. And that's even more applicable for a concealed carry gun.

I have a Springfield XD subcompact. I picked it for several reasons. No safety to mess with, small, and light come to mind. Oh, and easy field stripping. Go rent them and try them out. Let her pick what she likes.

This. I have purchased a couple of firearms based on hearsay or nostalgia, but nothing beats actually firing one. All of the firearms you mentioned are very common, and because of this they should be easy to find at any rental range.
As an example, I am amazed at how many people seem to love the Beretta 92 line. After 16 years in the Marines (Beretta 92 is the civilian M9), I am not a fan of it at all.
