I just picked up my Bodyguard .380 and it is rding comfortably in it's new home....my right front pocket. I ordered it back in December and I got the call from my gun shop this week, that it was in.

Hey man, Glad you just posted, I was actually looking at one of those just yesterday. How do you like it so far. Is it confortable? Do you feel confortable with the .380 cal (damage infliction wise)? Best advise I can get is from someone who owns one....

I bought one for backpacking. Sure, a bigger canon would have better stopping power, but I have to consider size and weight. I can't afford to allocate 10% of my base weight to a firearm.

bg380

Hello, I got mine last month, for those days I want somthing smaller than my Sig to carry. I've only put a little over 200 rds threw her, and no malfunctions so far, except needing to double strike a few rds that I blame on the ammo. There is a forum for the bodyguards that I am a member of also. The early ones had some problems, but so far the only problem I've had was the laser buttons being hard to push, I just e-mailed S/W and they mailed me new updated buttons for free. I'm looking into getting some sight paint to make my sights easier to see.

I was looking at getting one of these for a BUG but I have seen many people complain about the slide release being way to loose and snapping at peoples fingers. Is the safety really stiff or easy to operate?

How you liking that thing? I'm between that and a LCP for the heat! My EDC is a G26 but Bodyguards are sounding better and better.

BTW: Do you still have to wait for days to pick up your gun after you buy it in the PRMA? Or was your dealer just out of them?

I realy like mine. My slide stop lever hasn't ever bit me, I havn't heard that one before. The safety was realy stiff, and I just oiled it and worked it on/off, and it losened up. You hear a click going on/off, and you won't switch it by accadent, but I can easily flip it off with my thumb. If your around Ark, I have my own range, bring your own ammo, (just not the dirty cheap stuff) and you could try a clip or 2, and see how you like it.

Thanks for the reply Steve, Think I'll have to stop at a store and get a feel for one. My g/f wants on for carry purposes and she likes the manual safeties so this may be a good fit for her as well.

Revolver or Auto

Hey guys,
Did I miss something? The SW Bodyguard comes in 2 models. Which one are we talking about?

I would like to know if the laser on the auto is ambi or favors right handers.

the bg380 auto

It has 2 laser buttons 1 on each side, which might even help teach proper handling. When I hold mine at the ready, trigger finger pointed straight out the button is right under the pad of my finger, and I can switch it threw all 3, on, pulse, and off. My buttons were hard to press at 1st, and I just e-mailed S/W asking for new updated buttons and they mailed me new ones free. They are rubber and are easy to put in and take out without have to disassemble. When your looking at it in the store try out the buttons, I've heard that is one of the things to look at, some work better than others, but mine is fine now with the new ones they sent me. The manual safety in rt handed only, but it's a DAO with the normal auto safetys also.
Another thought, I've been teaching my 20 yo daughter to shoot, and she's getting pretty good, but she likes shooting my 9mm Sig P239 more, and says the 380 kicks a little more. She can put 2 in the center ring of the silhouette with either one. The recoil isn’t bad on the bg380, I can rapid fire all 6 into the ring myself.

The Laser

I really like the design and most of the features, but not the laser. For my personal protection carry piece, I do not see any rason to light up the objective while also giving up my position. Even worse, consider the intense situation in a encounter with your laser bouncing all over the place. There is no way you are going to hold a steady light on a target, not to mention giving up your position.

It's going to take about 2 seconds to sight in on a target with a laser, by the time the intruder knows what going in he'll be shot. Those are much better odds than trying to train in on a target in the pitch black while your most likely still half out of it from waking up 30 seconds ago. Night sights are nice, but you'll still be aiming at a shadow.

snatale42,
Your comments make a lot of sense. Perhaps I just lack the confidence in lasers having no experience with them in a actual confrontation.

Hey everyone-

I have not had the opportunity to range test it yet, but plan on doing so next weekend. I will post my range report then. I have been buying different ammo for range and defense. My plan is conduct my tests on Speer Gold Dots, Federal Hydra Schocks, Winchester PDX Bonded, and some lead range ammo.

No waiting period in MA to purchase a gun.....that's a myth.

3 day waiting period, my brother in Ohio has a 15 minute waiting period......wish they would make exceptions for ex military.
