My Girlfriend Bought A Gun

So excited my girlfriend just bought her first gun. The timeline goes something like this:

November ‘10
- GF: “I hate guns you better not leave any of yours around where I can see them”
March ‘11
- Me: “Come out and shoot with me
- GF: “I don’t want to”
- Me: “Please…”
- GF: “Okay only for a little bit”
March ‘12
- GF applies for her pistol permit
March ‘13
- GF gets her pistol permit
March 20, 2013
- GF buys her very own Colt 1911 lightweight 38 Super
- ME: “Mission Accomplished”

So she went from hating guns to buying her first one, which she definitly didn't cheap out on.

And yes we live in Erie County NY and it took 364 days for her to get her permit.

I kinda got a similar story but it is a wife story. 1982 wife goes to Penn State, hates men, declared atheist, joins the NAGS, graduates, goes to work for Buffalo Natural Gas, joins the Peace Corp, goes to Thailand for 2 years, reads the Bible, becomes born again (somewhat), returns to US, meets future husband (me), gets married (me), still believes in abortion rights, argues with me, starts listening to Limbaugh, gets pregnant, sees babies heart beat on ultra sound, stops believing in abortion rights, gives birth, raises daughter, wants a gun, buys SR40C without permit in 8 minutes, walks out of store with gun, goes and shoots gun, wants an AR15, buys an AR15 in 8 minutes without permit, shoots AR, giggles, the rest is history...we live in Virginia. You guys and girlfriends in NY, Colorado, CA, HI, IL need to immigrate. By doing so you can starve your state to death of revenue. After it is dead you can move back and give it a rebirth under your rules.

I too am in Erie county, and put in my permit application about a month after your GF. im hopeing for the same one year wait, but was expecting 14-18 months. What town?

JimTh, part two of your story sounds like my wife's timeline. She was a lifelong Christian who had limited experience with shooting. I'm a veteran who shot expert in the Army and have always owned guns. Together we took a Defensive Shooting class in order to get our Virginia CCP. That opened the floodgates. She now ons a Smith Bodyguard .38 Spl., a Smith Bodyguard .380, an XD 9 compact, an XD 9 sub-compact and a Rock River Arms AR 15 with an EoTech 512 holographic sight. She's a Nurse Practitioner who's motto is, "I can save your life, or end it right here......your call."

Awesome that she got unrestricted. Do you know when her references were contacted?

I am one lucky Guy. Married my high school sweetheart, and one of the first things I bought her was a .22 cal rifle(she still has it today). After 54 years of marriage, we still shoot together, and she is the proud possessor of a CCL here in NM. She has numerous Gold medals on the wall from competition shooting, and actually out shot me in Qualifying for her CCL. She is Qualified for .357 Mag in revolver, and .45 SA shooting a group with the two of them smaller than 5" total, in center mass. Am I proud of her. Danged right, and proud to have her as my backup.

That is cool. Very good news. And congrats on the unrestricted.
Man, this girl went from zero to 110, didn't she?!? Nice choice of "first pistol"!

This is rather encouraging guys! I've been working on the in between who are afraid of guns but respect people's rights to own them. Got my mom to a few classes and I put my AR with scope on her kitchen counter and she's like "can I hold it". A year go she would of been on the other room. She got her carry permit just needs help poking out a gun.
With her arthritis thinking walther pk380 or maybe a ruger Lcr. Most revolvers and pistols she can't pull the trigger or rack the slide. Any other suggestions?

Orchard park is the same way, but no notary is required. Mine were sent the form in january, and my phone interview with the police was February 9th. However the officer said the department of mebtal hygiene was backed up and they did not receive my certificate yet, but expected it within a month.

Im watching the mail closely....
