My Friend Stabbed While Buying Chocolate Milk

I just found out that my friend was stabbed last week during an attempted robbery. He went to the 7 Eleven around the corner from his house around 8:50PM to go get some chocolate milk. He was was just wearing some gym shorts and a shirt but had his Glock 20 with him. While I don't recommend carrying without a holster, it sounds like it saved him in this situation.

Apparently after he got out of the store from buying his chocolate milk, the robber backed his car up by his driver side door, ran out and stabbed him in the leg and then demanded money.

Instead of giving him money, my friend pulled his Glock 20 and then the robber took off, leaving his car in the parking lot. He said he didn't fire since the robber was running away.

The police apprehended with with the help of a K9 dog which the robber also assaulted. My friend is recovering but will be fine.

This just goes to show you that things can happen at anytime and anywhere. He was less than a few blocks away from his house which is technically in a nice neighborhood.

I am reminded of another thread about LEOs asking why you carry. Guess this answers the question. My first thought was too bad he didn't have a chance to take out the trash, so to speak. My second thought was: glad he is still alive.
 
I think of all the random violence that occurs in this country and wonder why more people aren't carrying. Take a look at this *graphic* video of a convenience store being attacked by a knife-wielding assailant. Crazy!

I second, third or whatever it is on saying that it was good that he used his head and didn't shoot the robber while he was running away. Although it may have been legal and moral along with lots of people saying that he would have saved the state money along with eliminating the probability that he would rob again, it was the correct thing to do. If your friend had shot the BG while he was running away there would have been investigations and probably court hearings along with a lot of sleepless nights. As it is he will probably have to still have to take time to go to court but as a witness rather than as a defendent and paying a lawyer $200 per hour to sit beside him.

I don't know how many of us would have been smart enough to not shoot but hopefully it would be most. He had the robbers car and some good information so let the police take care of him for at least a little while.
 
What happen to his gun when he went to the hospital? Did they allow him to retain possession of it?

I hope your friend is OK. He did the right thing not shooting the guy when he was fleeing. He was no longer a imminent threat and that could look bad in court if he was to shoot him while fleeing. If he was to shoot him while the guy was still threatening him, that changes everything. Your friend did good being under that kind of pressure.
 
That kind of drives the point of why we carry home.

Glad your friend survived - he's lucky. Do they think he will have any permanent damage?
 
Best of all possible outcomes. Like others who posted, I must say I don't know if I would have had the presence of mind not to fire. But by NOT doing so, your friend has drawn MORE attention to the incident, possibly waking up potential criminals and those who oppose concealed carry. The guy is going to get in some serious trouble, and your friend will be OK.

When cornered I most often identify myself as a liberal. Sure, I think we should melt all the guns. The world would be a beautiful place. And until that day comes, I'm packing. This is why.
 
Your friend had well self control not to shoot. I do hope he has a speedy recovery. I get laughed, I carry everywhere, pool and gym. When I can't have my firearm with me, my tech. knife is there. You just never know.
 
Outstanding poise and self control. A dude shoves a knife in my leg and I am not certain that I am so pissed off that I wouldn't chase his butt down and shoot him! At least the taxpayers would be saved a load of money but then I am out my life savings defending myself in court! Seriously though, I carry every where I go precisely because of an episode like this one and the ones we read about or see on TV nearly every week in America. I also think it through on a regular basis just how will I respond in any scenario, I do not want to let some dirtbag injure (or kill) me or a family member, but I do not want to be unnecessarily drug through a trial accusing me of being a criminal either. It is a challenge we all face, making the right decision in a moment of extreme adrenaline flooding.
 
I live in Tampa as well. Did this happen at the 7 Eleven at the intersection of Gandy and Westshore? It looks like it?
 
Agree with not shooting a fleeing person, court time is expensive, note there is no such thing as a "good neighborhood" criminals have transportation. Now when the BG pulled the knife, pull the trigger, your friend could have been stabbed in the heart and dead, glad he is on his way to good health. Ad campaign says it best " Never leave home without it" Peace, Love, Colt 45.
 
Hope your friend is going to be ok. Good that he isn't going to have to be dragged through the courts for doing what one should be able to do. Something wrong with a system where someone can attack us with a knife (or any other weapon) and then run off crying "not it" and a bad law protects them.
