Online certification is easy and affordable.
These sites let you watch the training video and take the test for free!

I took an online class and it was a waste of time and a waste of my money. I printed off my dumb certification and took it to my sheriff for my CCW permit and he would not accept it.

I recommend everyone stay away from these online courses.

I passed the test for an online CCW course and got my certificate and soon after had my CCW permit.

In many cases, you may be looking to get your license as fast as possible, which may be part of the reason you're looking at doing an online course.

You want to get in and out of the training requirement as quickly as possible, with as little effort as possible. If you take this approach, you are putting yourself at major risk of doing something illegal or of being useless with your firearm at the time you need it most.

Yes, you can qualify with one of these, and yes, you might argue it is gun control by your state, making you take a training class. However, if you have to take a class to get your license, why not take something that will actually help you?

Carrying is a huge responsibility...imagine if our soldiers or police were allowed to get their gun training online.

While you can take a course online, keep reading here to find out why you should take a real class.

Online certification is a great option for a lot of people. And if you go through a reputable service there shouldn't be a problem. Iowa Concealed, Virginia Concealed, Colorado Concealed and Oregon Concealed all offer 100% money back guarantee if there is a problem they can't resolve. They have excellent customer service and will call the sheriff's office to resolve the issue.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with online certification, Deserteagle. Did you end up getting your certificate another way?

So now I went through all of this and I got the cert. so now what now, do I take my cert. down to the police and get a ID card from them or how do that work? Thanks for your reply.

Nope. $50 down the drain. The sheriff said there was no way to prove I was the one who sat behind the computer and took the class, so he could not prove I was trained. The sheriff's office was on the verge of laughing when I showed them a certificate with my name on it printed off from the computer. I ended up paying another $75 for a class in person. Maybe other people will have better luck.

Online carry classes are STUPID... Unless the person giving the test has personal interaction with the person/ persons taking the class then the whole point is lost.

An on line class, is never a good choice, I don’t trust these paper mills, you answer a few questions and give them your money a poof you’ve got a ccw permit and most of the time not worth the paper there written on. Unless you’ve got prior on hands training either through the military or a law enforcement job, the ccw class that you have to sit in is the best choice, both for you and everyone around you.

Hmmm, I was going by my police department tomorrow with this so now I'm thinking twice about this. I might just go and ask them the proper way to do this at less.

As long as you are in a state that allows online safety training (Oregon, Iowa, Virginia, Colorado* check with your county to be sure) there should not be a problem when presenting your certificate. The law is the law, and it is currently legal in these states to earn your certificate by doing an online safety training program.
Once you have your certificate, bring it down to your local sheriff's office for processing (fingerprinting, background check).

For many people who already have experience with a firearm, the online program is a great, convenient option. The programs cover required basic safety information. It's not for everyone. If you prefer in-person training you should seek it out.

Bull. Every class I have ever been to no matter how basic I learned something. Interaction with others and the teacher will always win out over looking at a screen. Just because something is possible does not make it a wise decision.

Of course that is at odds with my fervent belief that there shoudl not be ANY government involvement or say in who can carry a firearm or buy, sell or own them....

It all depends on your state, really. The more restrictive states tend to not accept them but all in all, online courses are a great option. You get all the training and information you need, at your own pace. For example, the Oregon State Sheriff's Association provides online concealed handgun license training that satisfies the Oregon educational requirement for handgun safety training to obtain your concealed handgun license. After completing this course you must make an appointment with your Sheriff but that's it.

I don't put much stock in online certifications. Until you've felt the bullets whizz past your ears, you've inhaled the pungent stench of cordite, and tasted the sweet flavor of victory in combat, then you don't know anything.
