My Encounter with Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (CCW)

Hi there! Just a quick (positive!) story about a situation I had with a Jacksonville Police Officer (JSO from now on).

I went to a gas station to pick up a drink and some snacks before heading home. I was carrying my Ruger SR40c, IWB in a Minotaur Comp-Tac holster. I had only received my CCW license a few weeks prior so I was relatively new to the concealed carry scene. I went to grab something from the bottom shelf (I think it was sunflower seeds) and forgot to bend at the knees instead of my waist.

All of a sudden I hear a *AHEM* from behind me. Standing there was a JSO officer with a wry grin on his face. He told me:

"Son, you should probably keep that gun of yours hidden. Your shirt is riding up and you don't want to freak out the cashiers".

Apparently, another gas station close by got robbed a few days earlier so everyone was a little on edge in the area. Anyways, the JSO officer and I got to talking outside and he was a very nice guy.

Just wanted to share a positive story when all you hear on the news nowadays are the militant cops who are abusing their power. Have a good day everyone!

Always nice to hear about the good police officers still out there! Like most of our sheriffs out here in Colorado actively trying to get rid of a stupid, unconstitutional and impossible-to-enforce law!

As critical as I am of the police - I'm know there are many very good officers out there. They uphold their sworn duty, respect others and their rights, and are not shooting (or arresting, or...???) first and answering questions later. Much of the problems today that I and others spotlight on this forum concerning LEO's and LE agencies is the intrusion of FedGov into local and state law enforcement which engenders reactionary policing and outright criminal activity in some cases. Moral hazard also comes into play allowing the bad cops to play an ever larger role both as street operators and supervisory personnel thereby potentially defining the MO of the department itself.
For the sake of us all, I truly hope the JSO deputy that Blazinazn007 encountered is a good representation of the LEO's we now have in this country. I don't believe that these officers will ultimately prevail but it may slow down what is to come.

no I am sorry to say that the JSO guy is not a representation of cops in the US as a whole, however he is a good representation of the cops we have here in NE FLA, most of them are fairly decent

We have a second home in Jax. JSO has always been on good terms with CC'ers.

I'm on the security team at my church in Glendale AZ and have one different Glendale officer there every Sunday. All the team is carrying and so far had no problems with any of the Glendale officers. Even when other events are going on with out a GPD assigned the officers that come through are always professional and never hassle an of the team.

by the response i guess you are talking about Jacksonvile,FL, and not Jacksonvile, NC, VA TN or OHio

just another reason FL needs OC, then there would be no reason to worry about showing your hidden firearm.

this is one time i could understand the clerks worry since BG also carry hidden
