The study by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that 11.1 million Americans now have permits to carry concealed weapons, up from 4.5 million in 2007. The 146 percent increase has come even as both murder and violent crime rates have dropped by 22 percent.

Between 2007 and the preliminary estimates for 2013, murder rates have fallen from 5.6 to 4.4 per 100,000.

This does not mean that the murder rates have fallen because there was an increase in concealed carry permits. Correlation does not imply causation.

The right to keep and bear arms does not need to be justified with statistics. Period.

#1. The Statistic makes sense to me, Thus the saying "An Armed Society is a Polite Society".
#2. Unfortunately, in this Liberatard environment we DO need statistics in our favor. Liberals will lie and deceive to get our guns. Cold Hard facts are our most solid argument.

Indeed, but there is no need to prove causation; the lack of positive association (that is, the negative association) fails to support the anti-gunners' hypothesized relationship that more guns equals more crime. It does not.
