Multiple carrying - is it legal?

Having read the posted forums over the past years, we noted on many occasions that the subject of “multiple carry”
has been mentioned, discussed, and left as an option for readers. While some may feel comfortable with carrying their
primary firearm that can do serious harm, some may feel compelled to carry another smaller caliber discretely hidden
away as in a back pocket or in an ankle holster. While this may sound like a good backup plan, it is advisable for CC
individuals to check their state laws, as well as the laws of states that have reciprocity with their issuing state as
to how many firearms one may legally carry on their person at any time. Here in New Mexico (being an open carry
state as well), state laws are specific on how many sidearm’s one may have on one’s person. We submit the relevant
state statute …

New Mexico Department of Public Safety … § 29-19-6

(4) the category and the largest caliber of handgun that the licensee is licensed to carry, with a statement
that the licensee is licensed to carry smaller caliber handguns but shall carry only one concealed handgun at any given time.

Anyone can download the entire NMDPS Rules and Regulations in a *.pdf format from this site:

Furthermore, the New Mexico Concealed Carry Act, § 10.8.2.20, has a provision that may not be to CC carrying individual’s
liking if a LEO determines that the individual is, in fact, “double packing”, especially if the individual is asked to produce
their license and display their firearm. If the individual attempts to reveal only one firearm, but the LEO learns that you are
carrying a second firearm, this provision kicks in:

A. Authority to disarm. A peace officer acting in the lawful discharge of his official duties is authorized to disarm a licensee
at any time the peace officer has probable cause to believe it is necessary for the protection of the licensee, peace officer,
or other individual. The peace officer shall return the handgun to the licensee before dismissing the licensee from the scene
when the peace officer has determined that the licensee is not a threat to himself, the peace officer, or other individuals,
provided that the licensee has not violated any provision of this act or this rule, or committed any other violation which
could result in arrest …. etc.

B. Authority to confiscate license. A peace officer may confiscate a license if the licensee has violated any provision of
the act or this rule, or committed any other violation
that could result in arrest of the licensee … etc.

Best to learn ahead of time what you issuing state allows as well as any state that you transit in your travels. We learned
of an individual in northern New Mexico that had their license confiscated because they were “double packing” (not sure of the situation
regarding the handguns; possibly returned after a hearing). That individual’s license was revoked for a year; after which, he had
to reapply for a CC license, a tedious process. So the issue remains … is “double packing” worth it? Is it added security or paranoia?
Lastly … is it legal?

it depends on the state you are in, here in FLA you can carry as many as you can conceal properly as long as you have a CWFL

Perfectly legal in Ohio.

You can carry as many handguns, concealed, unconcealed or a combination thereof as you like, with an Ohio Concealed Handgun License or recognized equivalent.

Believe it or not, in NY you can carry everything that's on your license at once if you want to. And the one time I did, I meet a trooper with a sense of humor!

and you're bragging about having to get permission for what you can own and carry? my goodness you poor people are so compliant while your god given rights are trampled

It's not that we're happy about "complying" even though our rights are being infringed upon, it's that we're doing what society has forced us to do. Believe it or not, all of the officials that have forced us to get permits were elected by us (here comes the vote count conspiracy).

Unfortunately we have to comply to a point, regardless of how we feel about it, because to ignore the permit requirement brings upon unwanted consequences.

So all we're doing is being happy that we have only lost some battles regarding our rights, instead of losing the war, metaphorically speaking of course.

Check your local laws, but in most states, if you have a CCW permit, there is no limit.

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

the battle is lost in libturd infested places like NY because complacent people like you are not willing to to what it takes to fight for and assert your rights

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but there is also a time and a place for everything.

Here in Kentucky you can carry any weapon, and as many, that you want as long as you have a CC permit. According to my CCP instructor switchblades are illegal in Kentucky but you can legally carry one if you have a CCP.

Coming from the oh so gun friendly welfare state of Florida...gimme a break. If Florida was better than NY, their police wouldn't arrest a man on murder charges because lil wannabe twink trayvon's mommy cried and felt sad and discriminated against.

What you quoted above is only the procedure you follow when applying. So I looked further to see if the law actually said that you had to carry one at a time once said license was issued. By gum, it did:

10.8.2.16 TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LICENSE:
A. Carrying only handguns listed on license. No person shall carry a concealed handgun of a different category or higher caliber than is indicated on the license issued to that person by the department. A licensee shall only carry one (1) concealed handgun at any given time.

What the hell is wrong with you New Mexico. Get this law changed now.

I am not going to enumerate in a forum like this the things that I've done but I am fairly confident that it is more than 99.8% of the mall ninjas like you on internet forums

Nope, not bragging, just saying that I have done it, and that it is not a problem here. And even though we have to put up with a lot of bureaucratic BS, we're not restricted to carrying "only" one firearm at a time. I may be wrong, but doesn't Florida require a "license" also?

fla requires a PERMIT to carry a concealed weapon in public, it is easy to get [ as long as there is no criminal history] and getting one isn't very expensive.
regardless of having CWFL or not people who are not restricted because of their history can own all the guns that they care to without getting permission from the local coppers or any other government entity.
it's not a perfect system here but it isn't anywhere as restricted as it is in the occupied NE part of the US

The way the law is written here means that concealed is the only way you can carry, and that suits me fine, but open vs. concealed is another discussion altogether. When I first got licensed, shortly after the last mastodon left the area, the whole process took thirty days, and cost me less than $100.00. I know it's much worse now. And I am only too aware of how hard it is to effect any political change in NY. Fully 50% of the states voters reside in the area immediately surrounding, or in New York city, and unfortunately too many people upstate don't get out and vote.

As far as the rest of the Northeast, well, Vermont is more gun friendly than Florida, but they don't allow suppressors, New Hampshire is very gun friendly, Pennsylvania, with the exception of Philadelphia, isn't bad either. But then there is Mass., NJ, Ct., and NY.. So basically in the area I roam the most, NH., Vt., NY, and Pa., I'm good to go.

The law here in WV is acceptable to me. I can carry open with no permit as long as I am legally able to own a firearm (no felony convictions or judgments regarding mental health). To carry concealed you have to take a class (cost me $80) and a fee of $105 through my local Sheriffs dept. WV does not restrict how many firearms I can carry, although for practical purposes I only carry one, and sometimes a reload, but not always. Truthfully I think it's easier to carry one pistol and a spare mag as opposed to multiple pistols. I subscribe to the school of thought that says it's better to carry all day every day, than to try to carry to much that it gets to the point that you sometimes leave with nothing.

I do not think there should be a restriction though on how many you can carry if you are legally allowed to carry at all.
