Moving to Eastern TN

My wife and I are looking at relocating to Eastern TN, somewhere along the NC / TN border.
What can you tell me about the area and the eastern part of TN in general? We have spent some time in the Smokeys, Pigon Forge, Gatlinburg, etc and like the area.
