Moving from one CCW State to another

If I move from the State that I got my CCW to another state which has reciprocity (NV to NC), other than updating my contact information with the local sheriff's department in each area, what do I need to do to keep my CCW?

Do I need to go through the entire process again, or is it not an issue until the 5 year point when the original CCW from NV expires?

If your Nevada permit is a resident permit and you are no longer a resident of Nevada....

Well I'll let you figure the rest out

You will have to changee from res permit to non res permit. Talk to your county sheriff and find out what else they want

That assumes they'll give you a non-resident license when you aren't a non-resident yet. North Carolina recognizes all out of state licenses, so you're good in that regard. If you want a NC license you have to kive there for 30 days first.

Are you saying that North Carolina would recognize a Nevada resident permit held by a NC resident?
They automatically recognize valid licenses from any other state (something I wish all states would do). I highly doubt they'd consider a Nevada resident license held by a North Carolina resident to be valid. When I said he would be good in that regard I was referring to the previous suggestion that he switch to a Nevada non-resident license upon moving, assuming he's allowed to do that. Otherwise he's stuck with waiting the 30 days to establish NC residency, taking the NC course and waiting up to 45 days for a NC license.

That would be nice.

OK that makes sense

NC reciprocity law:

§ 14‑415.24. Reciprocity; out‑of‑state handgun permits.
(a) A valid concealed handgun permit or license issued by another state is valid in North Carolina.
(b) Repealed by Session Laws 2011‑268, s. 22(a), effective December 1, 2011.
(c) Every 12 months after the effective date of this subsection, the Department of Justice shall make written inquiry of the concealed handgun permitting authorities in each other state as to: (i) whether a North Carolina resident may carry a concealed handgun in their state based upon having a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit and (ii) whether a North Carolina resident may apply for a concealed handgun permit in that state based upon having a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit. The Department of Justice shall attempt to secure from each state permission for North Carolina residents who hold a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit to carry a concealed handgun in that state, either on the basis of the North Carolina permit or on the basis that the North Carolina permit is sufficient to permit the issuance of a similar license or permit by the other state. (2003‑199, s. 1; 2011‑268, s. 22(a).)

Does not say "A valid concealed handgun permit or license issued by another state, to a resident not of this state, is valid in North Carolina

1. I didn't say it exactly that way. Your halfway use of quotes kind of makes it seem like you were trying to attribute that statement to me somehow.
.
2. It says "(a) A valid concealed handgun permit or license issued by another state is valid in North Carolina", which does mean that valid concealed handgun permits or licenses from other states are valid in North Carolina. Thanks for posting the text. And it makes no differentiation as to whether those out of state licenses are issued to residents of those states or not. All out of state licenses or permits would be legal in North Carolina under that provision, no matter who they were issued to, resident or non-resident, as long as those licenses or permits are valid. It's a great model for national reciprocity, unless you're unfortunate enough to live somewhere that carrying is allowed without a license.

Sorry. Looks like half of my post disappeared into the ethernet. My half quote was actually wording from the statutes of another state that forbids its residents from carrying in home state with another state's permit.

I hate it when that happens!
