Mossberg 500a

My son recently purchased a Mossberg 500A combo. It has an 18.5" barrel & a 26"ribbed barrel. Also came with a pistol grip to replace the stock. He wanted to add a forend grip on it also for H.D. I picked one up for him at the last gun show but it won't work. Guess the forearm has the rods permanantly attached so it can't be changed out.
Any one here have this gun & maybe offer some advise?
My idea was to drill holes in the stock forend & add a piccatiny rail to the bottom & put on a removable grip.

My Mossberg is the same way - some of them have a band around the barrel that prevents the forearm assembly from being removed.

I did a bit of reading up on this. A gunsmith can get the forearm off for detailed cleaning and repair, and may even be able to make a permanent modification that allows the forearm to be removed during field-stripping. But...I'm happy with mine configured the way it is (conventional butt stock and wooden tubular forend), so I haven't looked further into it.

If you are able to get the gun modified, would appreciate it if you'd post details here. I'd sure like to get into those last few crevices when cleaning mine. :)

The Mossie, in it's stock configuration ,isn't a good platform to expand.

I always wanted a longer magazine for my 500 (from the late 1970's) but the barrel screws into the end of the magazine tube.

Took the gun to the local gun show yesterday where we bought the original forend grip.
Guy sold us a replacement forend with a tri-rail set up. Went right together. No smithing required. Sweet looking piece, & now there's a way to put on a forend grip, laser, flashlight. coffee maker, whatever you'd like.
Check out IFA Tactical, just make sure you ask for the forend for the Maverick.
