More Women Choosing to Arm Themselves

Wendy Saetta of Irondequoit hopes there never comes a day when she has to draw a gun, but if she does, she’s ready.

Saetta is just one of the many American women who have decided to take protection into their own hands by owning a gun and also keeping a gun at home.

“Women are out of the home a lot more now and this world is getting a lot more crazy,” Saetta says. “You never know.”

According to a recent Gallup Poll, the number of women who say they have a gun at home is at an all-time high.

Glad to see this trend. I only wish I could get my daughter-in-law to be more confident/competent with a firearm. My son is military too - and that means she's alone, far away from any protection I might provide in his absence. It worries me.

Hmm, I think I'll start a thread in the "non-lethal" forum...

I am glad to see that trend too...women taking charge of their safety and defense. My wife has been shooting for over a year and is just about to the point of being ready to get her permit and carry.

Eagleeyes, more power to you. When I first met my wife, it was "no motorcycle", "no guns", and "I don't want you to be a cop". Today, she rides on the back of OUR bike.... she has her own handgun and shoots damned well, and I'm in our local Sheriff's Reserve division. More women are coming around to the idea that their safety depends upon them and nobody else. Of course, I will always feel like I am the one responsible for safety in our household, it's sure comforting to know she can throw rounds downrange at a threat if she needs to.
