Places like PRNY, PRNJ, and, PRIL (just to name a few) are so hopelessly anti gun that it is political suicide NOT to support gun control. The only solution for freedom lovers in these godforsaken people's republics is to move.

The SCOPE statement in opposition is a well written, reasoned, logical, point-by-point presentation that should be able to convince any fence sitters to vote against the proposed bill....until the last paragraph that rolls out the tin foil hat rhetoric:

The assumed purpose of the proposed legislation is to impose a perceived utopian society through legislation.
...
It is the creation of the hoplophobic and politically motivated.
...
It is to condition the public to accept a piecemeal destruction of the Second Amendment.

Nothing kills a good persuasive argument like a bad closing.

Depicting your political opponent as a wannabe Big Brother conspiring to usurp the Constitution just turns people off to the substance of your arguments, and ends up marginalizing the person making the claims.

Reasonable people will listen to reasonable arguments. But they don't swallow wild eyed rhetoric.

It is unfortunate that SCOPE has gone off into the netherworld of right wingnut politics instead of focusing on 2A issues. It still has some credibility on 2A issues, but it has increasingly covered that credibility with its far right political assertions.

Probably true. Yet my Democrat Congeressman and state Assemblyman both carry a gun. They both get a "C" rating from the NRA.

Our problem is that NYC controls the voting block for the entire state. Mostly liberal democrats (and foreigners), there's nearly 10 million people on that little 12 X 4 mile island, so upstate voters are silenced. Upstate NY are mostly regular folks who aren't wigged out by guns.

However I will say that my unrestricted CCW was easy to get and I'm not barred by law from restaurants, bars, public transportation, hospitals, malls, churches, county, town or city lands (outside of that foreign country called NYC).

I've seen numerous attempts at further gun control struck down over the years. These included microstamping, ammo registration, bullet serialization, additional taxation, etc. What NY needs is CRIMINAL CONTROL. The average sentence for child rape is 2.5 years. The average sentence for murder is 8 years. Of course they're just poor misunderstood souls.

Maybe we should put a breathalizer at the entrance to the state house. If you're not SOBER you don't get to screw the people OVER!
