Moms group pressures Jack In The Box to enforce gun ban

Never thought they were that good anyway

Following police and media reports that Jack in the Box employees at a Fort Worth store hid in the freezer following a visit by a group of open-carry protesters, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America started a petition urging the burger chain’s leadership to enforce its ban on firearms at corporate-owned stores.

Citing what they believe are lax gun laws in the Lone Star State, the pro-gun control organization — which along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns makes up Everytown for Gun Safety — believes that open-carry demonstrations cause confusion for customers, employees and law enforcement because they cannot tell whether or not the armed activists are good guys or bad guys with guns.

“Where state gun laws dangerously allow individuals with no background check or training to buy semi-automatic rifles and carry them openly in public, businesses have a duty to protect their employees and patrons,” Shannon Watts, the groups founder, said in a press release.

“That’s why we are calling on Jack In the Box and other businesses to follow Starbucks’ lead and prohibit the open carry of rifles on their property,” she added.

Watts was referring to an open letter by Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, which politely asked gun owners to leave their firearms at home and open carry protesters to hold there demonstrations elsewhere.

“To be clear: we do not want these events in our stores,” wrote Schultz.

Meanwhile, those members of the Tarrant County Chapter of Open Carry Texas that attended the demonstration last week claim that no one was alarmed by their presence.

“The truth is that not a single employee of Jack in the Box hid in a freezer nor did a single employee call 911 or the police,” OCT stated on its Facebook page Tuesday.

“The 911 call was made by a couple in the restaurant,” explained OCT. “We are working to get the 911 call, the police report, and other recordings to find out where this information originated and expose those reporting false information to achieve their anti-gun agendas.”

Though there may be a dispute over what actually went down at that corporate-owned location, Moms is standing by its request.

“Jack in the Box is disregarding the safety and peace of mind of patrons, employees and law enforcement by allowing groups and individuals to openly carry shotguns and rifles onto their properties,” said Kellye Burke, Texas Chapter Leader of Moms.

“These businesses are subjecting hourly employees to danger and fear – and their customers, in search of burgers, to the potential for bullets,” she added.

I think that Open Carry Texas are only carrying rifles because their state does not allow the open carry of handguns like Oregon some other states do.

We don't see a lot of open carry around here. My son works at another national burger joint and had guy walk in with a holstered pistol on his belt. He did not look like law enforcement, but instead of running to the freezer he just thought "Oh ok" and took the guys order.

I thought Texas was open carry for Handguns, am I mistaken? Anyway, as far as I know in NC there have be no big complaints I see OPC all the time Food Lion, Wal-Mart, etc. I do know there was a couple of old ladies that complained to a Manager in a Kroger or Harris Teeter about someone OPC manager simply told here he was perfectly within his right and as long as he kept it in his holster there was nothing he could do.

MOMS! you're missing the issue here. It's Jack-in-the-Box that should be banned. Wanna know why your ten-year-old is overweight with high cholesterol and triglycerides? You shove that poison down his throat to make your own life easy. Try cooking a healthy meal.

Hope open carry comes to Texas, open carry in AZ all the time no problem. Odd these folks don't think anything of a police officer in uniform open carrying.

I am definitely pro-gun, pro 2nd amendment, and pro NRA, pro concealed carry anywhere, anytime, but I am not pro-open carry of any kind of gun (handgun or longgun). My reason is one, I think, of common sense. There's no reason to open-carry a gun anywhere, (cept hunting) because the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. For instance:
1. Open carry takes away stealth in case there's a bad person about to do a bad thing. I'll go for the surprise of concealed carry anytime.
2. Even if open carry could be argued as OK, there's just too many people out there that go apeshit when they see it. That gives open-carriers and all other gun owners a bad name. We get enough of a bad name from Bloomburg, Obama, Clinton and others.
3. When the gun haters of the world try to be heard, the first thing they do is use any tool at their disposal to harm the 2nd amendment rights that we enjoy. Open carry just very well may come back to hurt us rather than help us.
4. Consider what people think when they see open-carriers on TV -- the media always finds a way for it to look bad, not good. I say we need to protect our rights as gun owners, and not do something that can be used against us later on. For the most part, the public looks on concealed-carry a little more favorably than they do open-carry. I guess "out of sight, out of mind."

I conceal-carry 24-7, and I don't want to lose that legal right, cause I'd keep on carrying anyway. I don't want that to happen.

No kidding. It's not that hard. If I can do it, anyone can! (I'm lazy, not a great cook, don't enjoy it, and don't have a lot of time.) I'll admit to occasionally getting fast food as a special occasion treat or when it's late and I don't have time to cook, though it's fairly rare. Plus, there's very few fast food places where I can eat the food and not get sick afterwards. Jack-in-the-Box isn't one of them.

Open carrying a hand gun would not concern me much. Carrying a rifle around town is much different. Cops carrying hand guns no one pays much attention. Cops carrying rifles around, now something must be going on. As for anti-gun groups putting out misinformation, What's new about that?

Got a good chuckle out of that.

I give cops a second and third look especially now when they just shoot people and pets for the hell of it. A 93 year old lady was the latest I heard about. Shot not once but multiple times. She was a bad mamma jamma, highly wanted by the FBI, DHS and NSA.

This post is SO glaringly incorrect and holophobic that I am not going to even attempt to correct it.
Yes, I said CORRECT it.
I open carry all the time.
You never open carry.
Good for you(?)
I feel sorry for you and that you have unreasonable fear towards open carry.
See, no one will TAKE my two A rights because we live in a Republic, NOT a Democracy.....
Sorry!

Universal background check will do noting about the crazies. Medical records are hidden because of HIPA. We have HIPA because politicians don't want the public to know their medical history.

My cooking is so bad the flies chipped in to fix the hole in the screen. And it's still better than Jack in the Box.

Funny how it's both the gun banners and OC Fudds always fall back on "common sense" to peddle their wares.

Let's count the ways:

1. If a "bad person" is around, I want him to know that I have a gun (S&W 329PD). That way I don't have to depend on "surprise"; it's called "deterrence".

2. The OC circular argument: It's not ok to OC since it scares people (no cites or experience given for this, just stated as fact). Why does it scare people? Because no OCs, duh! The fact of the matter is that after OCing for over 3 years, most people don't even notice, much less care one whit. The response has been almost overwhelmingly positive.

3. Oh, ok so let's only enjoy the rights that only gun haters will agree with or allow us to. Yea, like that's going to work. I don't live my life worrying about what gun haters think or do, why should you?

4. The media = gun haters, see above.

You conceal 24/7 and you don't want to lose that right. Great good for you, the heck with everyone else's rights, you have yours. Excellent example of an OC Fudd.
