THIS has GOT to be embarrassing!

Apparently, Moms Demand was trying to get signatures on a petition in front of a Chipotle restaurant when they were approached by members of Oklahoma Open Carry Assoc., who attempted to discuss the matter with them in what was described as a civil manner. The members of Moms then called the police on the men who were carrying guns, only to be told by the responding officer that they were doing nothing illegal; he let the carriers pose with his cruiser for a photo:

Both groups then went in to the Chipotle, where the members of Moms Demand demanded that the store manager throw out the carriers; he refused, whereupon, the Moms squad began taking pictures of the carriers in an attempt to portray them as intimidating thugs, at which point the manager threw THEM out of the restaurant for harassing and taking pictures of the carriers without their consent.

…The manager refused to kick out OKOCA and even gave them free drinks. MDA activists then proceeded to take pictures of the gun owners and attempted to portray them as intimidating and threatening. The management wasn’t having any of it; he threw Moms Demand Action out of his store!
…He said that he wasn’t going to have people treating paying customers rudely in his store. They simply do not allow customers to take pictures of other customers; it’s a “zero tolerance” policy if you will. He also said that he has no position on open carry, and he understands that it is legal to carry in the state. Finally, he acknowledged that people behaving in the manner as MDA had in his store was actually more harmful to people than the act of lawfully carrying a firearm. Link Removed

Poor Moms! MASSIVE egg on the face!

Anti-Gun Group Moms Demand Action Get Kicked Out of Chipotle (Video) | The Libertarian Republic

Ok moms no problem with me, next time someone is shooting up your kids school call the police and wait, I promise never to use my weapon to protect you or your family, please ware a T shirt with Mom logo on it, I would hate to interfere with a bad guy bothering you or your children while you were waiting on police. By the way nice job by the police in this incident.

Was at a meeting last week and visited with a lady who is a CCW in Missouri. In our talk she told me about her boss, who knows she has a CCW. After a time the boss posted some new P&P. One being zero firearms on the property. This lady told her boss she would have to quit and take her customers with her. The Boss requested she stay, but keep quiet about having a firearm. At which her reply was " I have a CCW and weapon for my protections. If something happens your on your own."

She wished she had a camera for the look on her bosses face. She stayed and is still carrying inside of the business.

I think that this is great. Let's just hope that other open carry groups don't decide to have regular meetings there all decked out with AR's and AK's and spoil it for everybody else when the store manager decides that it's bad for business and bans firearms completely, like has happened in many other places.

And from the media that previously heralded the MDA 'victory' nationwide we hear . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Is that crickets?

It wasn't the open carry groups that spoiled it, it was MDA that spoiled it...how about you place blame where it belongs?

Or should we blame gun owners for all the school shootings too? Blame gun owners for any gun related crime?

Why go on the offensive when I share your exact same opinion? Let me reiterate my post because it obviously wasn't well worded enough to be clearly understandable.

1. I acknowledged the awesomeness of the incident and the actions of the open carry group mentioned in the article.
2. I mentioned my fears of other open carry groups hearing about this and going way overboard in the future, possibly leading to a similar ending like that of Starbucks.

We're all on the same team, no need to bite my head off.

"MDA" called police to report what? No laws were being broken. They were hoping for a publicity event, and it backfired.

These space wasters should be charged with misuse of the 911 system.

Too bad stupid isn't a chargeable offense.

They were probably hoping for disorderly conduct or inducing panic. Those are the favorite claims made by the anti-gunners around here.

They definitely exhibited disorderly conduct and induced panic... oh wait, you meant they were trying to get the OCers accused of that.

The MDAs know that in many cities (even those in pre-emption states like MI) police are "obligated" to roll on such calls and put the carriers the ringer even if they aren't actually DOING anything illegal. That is something open carriers face have faced a couple of times here in Grand Rapids, MI.

Grand Rapids police Officer William Moe was dispatched to the scene on a report of a man armed with a gun. When he arrived, he observed Deffert, and held him at gunpoint.

“Deffert was alone, and was loudly talking to himself,” Moe wrote. “Based on the area, and Deffert’s unusual behavior, R/O (responding officer) was concerned Deffert may have mental issues and was about to commit a violent crime.

“For R/O's safety and the safety of the community, R/O made a high-risk felony stop on Deffert. R/O was working alone. R/O drew down on Deffert, and made him lay down on his stomach, and place his hands on his head,” Moe wrote.

He secured Deffert in handcuffs. He then secured a .40- or .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol with attached flashlight.

“Deffert immediately began stating that he was exercising his right open carry,” Moe wrote. “R/O explained to Deffert, he had that right (to) open carry as long as he was not a felon or had any documented mental orders.

“R/O further explained to Deffert, R/O would release him as soon as R/O checked him in LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network). Deffert stated he had neither. Based on Deffert’s answers and odd demeanor, R/O was not so sure Deffert did not have some psychological issues. Deffert would not elaborate on why he was talking to himself. He had no cell phone on him,” Moe wrote, in a four-paragraph narrative, Grand Rapids police respond: Man detained for openly carrying firearm was acting 'oddly' outside church service | MLive.com

So because he was openly carrying a firearm in the immediate vicinity of a church in a more affluent part of Grand Rapids and, this is the real clincher, he was talking to himself (something I have done many times - and probably so has the person who called the police), he was treated as a high risk suspect. Anyone who has watched the video of this situation can clearly see that the carrier was lucid and posed no threat to anyone. There has been at least one other case of an open carrier being harassed by police here. The reason given is always the same if you ask - "we received a call, we had no choice but to roll on it."

Bull.

There are many communities in which the police determine first whether the person is actually doing anything illegal, and then explain carry rights to the caller when they find out that nothing criminal is happening.

What happened to Deffert in Grand Rapids is what MDA was hoping would happen to the carriers in this instance.

They're such asses. If they don't like OC they won't change it by acting-out at malls. If you don't like the law then try to change it through the legislative process.

I'm confused the link said there was video but the only video I saw was a very sympathetic (pro MDA) interveiw with the founder

You reference AK and AR open carry as a bad thing, yet some states like TEXAS only allow open carry of long guns. SO how else do you want Texans to demonstrate open carry in their state? Open carry is open carry and as long as you are within the law what is the problem. Do we need a mass demonstration unapproved taking place in a privately/corporate owned business, NO. This was not the case with the 2 men in Chipotle that has been used by MDA. They had permission to be there and there was no problem at the time. So I believe your connecting AK and AR open carry to causing problems is an imperfect example of open carry demonstration.
