MN and ND

So I've had a MN carry permit for quite a while and never have ventured to ND since there is no reciprocity. I am actually going to be starting a new job that puts me right on the MN/ND boarder and I will have to cross the state line frequently. If I'm reading the laws correctly I should be able to get either a FL or UT non-resident permit in order to carry in ND. My questions are: 1) am I correct and 2) is there an advantage to one over the other (FL v. UT)?

I live in MN and travel the USA regularly, I looked at all states reciprocity and non resident CCW permits. I ended up getting an AZ permit to cover me for ND and a few other states MN doesn't have reciprocity with. Utah doesn't cover NM, and that was my decision to get AZ. Eventually I'll get the FL as I occasionally go there too. Food for thought.

The FL CCL will cost you $117 but it is good for 7 years, Also if you were in the military all you have to do is enclose a copy of your DD214 with your application and the finger print card. I forgot that you have to send 2 passport size photos also!! With UT it could depend on when you took your class for your certificate. At least that is what I believe. You could have to go back and get a new certificate but UT is cheaper to apply. Click on the Conceal Carry Resources at the top of the page and scroll down to Conceal Carry permit Info then click on each state. Also go to Link Removed which is another good site.

I have MN and FL for now but do plan on getting out of MN soon. Have not decided where yet. But it will be where there is little to no taxes, gun friendly and where the libs are few and far between. :haha:

Have you considered applying for a North Dakota license? It looks like more states recognize it then they do Florida's. You will be virtually next door. Florida can take several weeks.

It's my understanding, and I may be wrong here, that ND doesn't have a non-resident permit. I don't want to become a ND resident just to get their permit.

North Dakota will issue to out of state residents, but youhave to be licensed in your state of residence and that state must have CCWreciprocity with North Dakota. Minnesotadoes not.

I could not find any pending legislation for any state thatwould indicate that the situation will change. You might try contacting one of the Test Administrators listed in a linkgo the Apply link above. Perhaps theywould be aware of any pending new law or regulation.

I do not mean to put down the Florida license. I live in Illinois and have both Illinois andFlorida licenses. Initially it justseemed that a North Dakota license would have been more convenient and cheaperfor you.
