Mlive, a Gannett communications company, has been riding the gun control issue for years. Even when they have been forced to acknowledge that the objective data fail to support the need for more gun control, they just keep putting it in front of MI citizens.

Currently, they are running a poll that asks, should gun-owners be able to openly carry a gun in public? Surprisingly, over 60% of respondents say Yes, there should be no restrictions on OC.

You can take the poll here:

nosreme obviously hasn't voted yet....

It is now 62.57% in favor of unregulated open carry. Like we almost have here in Washington (except inside a vehicle).

I love comments like this (from the article):

James LotusI support concealed carry, as it's a dangerous world out there and people need to protect themselves.

That said, open carry just scares people. You don't know what a person's intentions are when they're carrying, and those who say "the bad guy is shooting" is stupid. You don't wait for the other guy to shoot.

People who are OK with the guns they can't see, but are scared by the guns they can see.... when open carry comes up in legislation (like in Oklahoma a couple years ago), there is usually some police officer's association that is going to claim the guns that they can see present more of a danger to them than the guns that are being hidden.

I don't know that it's so much that they aren't afraid of the gun they can't see as it is a takeoff of the tree falling in the woods. If they can't SEE the gun, does it exist in the first place?

My friends wife didn't know I carried. We've been friends for years and everything was fine She found out one day and now is always a bit jittery when we're out in public and frequently asks my if I'm armed. There are a lot of folks, especially in heavily populated areas the freak at the thought of a gun. I prefer concealed for that reason. But I support any carry method.

Yet, people don't get freaked by LEOs with openly carried guns.

How many non-criminal people are injured/killed by LEOs each year, versus those killed by lawful OCers (or CCers, for that matter)? Just check with the folks near the Empire State Building, for starters.

Hey, if you want to frolic naked through the streets in nothing but a gun belt, holster (if you want) and firearm, have at it. You have every right to do so. Not like you need my permission to begin with.

First, people have been conditioned to think, police carrying = good, anyone else carrying must be a criminal. Second, the current version of the social contract states that civilians give up their right to carry in exchange for protection by police. Third, the MSM have done a terrific job insuring that the general public do not know that police injure and kill more innocents each year than do lawfully carrying civilians. People are shocked when I point to the Gary Kleck study that shows that civilians kill more bad guys each year than do police, yet in only 2% of civilian defensive shootings do they mistakenly kill or injure an innocent, while police kill or injure an innocent in 11% of their shootings.

Can you provide the name (and a link, if available) to that study. Would be handy to keep handy.

Tks.

Open carry just scares people...translation: open carry scares concealed carriers. Even the MDA has more balls because they aren't scared, they confront open carriers face to face.

If you want to dress up like a ninja with a judge Dredd helmet concealing all your ninja firearms, go for it, not like you need my permission...oh but you do need the states permission to exercise that privilege...fail.

Better than doing nothing more than making immature posts on internet forums.

Really? I can't find a story of MDA confronting OCers. OCers converging on MDA events, here and there.

For the record, I support the right to OC, we all should have it.
Are these in your face long gun toters helping the cause? On that point I'm not sure. How about trying "empty holster" protests, like the Students for Concealed Carry have done on college campuses?

I support carry, period. Method should be choose as you wish, OC or CC, and ignore whichever side is trying to convert you to their method solely so they can have more members in their club. Practice, proficiency, and skill should be the goal of all regardless of whether your weapon is open to anyone with vision or discretely hidden wherever.

The MDA was kicked out of Chipotle for harassing the carriers. Doesn't sound like fear to me...

But you know what does sound like fear? Calling the open carriers "in your face long gun toters"... Exactly what fear the MDA wanted to push into gun owners, and you display it perfectly.
