I have never been a football fan. In fact, I probably dislike football as much as anyone can. However my husband and I have season tickets for a local arena football team, so we go and I absolutely LOVE IT! Last night we went and they had a military tribute throughout the game, before and after.
There were tanks and other military vehicles in the parking lot for people to look over and other activities during the day.
Before the game they introduced a player, then a veteran, and so on until all players were intoduced. All the branches of the service were represented and all recent wars. Some from WW2 came in golf carts, but most walked in on their own. There was a color guard of Viet Nam vets and one sang the Star Spangled Banner. Before the game 4 of them rappelled down from the ceiling and presented the game balls, all of which were red, white, and blue. The cheerleaders were all decked out in camo and danced to patriotic songs.
And after the game, which got pretty rough (flags on almost every play), all the players stood in one big circle each holding hands with an opposing player in a long silent prayer. It was all very beautiful.
