I am applying for my MI CPL and have a concern about my past.
The reason for applying is due my career in corrections and safety precautions I feel are necessary for my and my family's well being. I should also note that I have legally and responsibly owned several handguns and long guns for several years.
I have never been convicted of any crimes whatsoever but there is a past police report with my name on it.
In 2010, I was 23, and was going through a very rough patch. A long term relationship had just ended, I lost my job due to company restructuring, and had learned my parents were getting divorced. I was going to therapy over the loss of my relationship and was on an antidepressant/anxiety med temporarily. However, the day I had learned I had lost my job, I called my mother after leaving work rather hysteric and told her I wanted to drive my truck into the river I had parked near. She called the police. They found me still in my truck, rather distraught but I had not attempted anything, nor would I have. The Officer talked with me for a while and told me he wanted me to go to the hospital and gave me the chance to check myself in voluntarily rather than involuntarily committing me. I agreed and he gave me a ride there and took me into the ER where they evaluated me and discharged me within a couple hours as the social worker said that I did not present any danger to myself.
It was now been seven years and my life is completely stable. I am 30 years old, married, own a home, work in corrections, have no mental instabilities(as I have come to learn they were totally situational and not uncommon) and have learned to cope with grief in a healthy way.
My question is, would that history cause my cpl to be denied, even though it doesn't technically meet the statutory denial criteria set by the state of Michigan?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
