messed up my ruger P95

I tried to move the rear sight what a pain, I hit the sight with a punch and hammer till it finally moved and popped off. a spring and ball bearing jumped out from under the sight ( what the heck are they for ) they certainly aren't needed to hold the sight in place ! still dont know where they flew off to but I'm guessing I don't really need them anyway. but here is the kicker, the gun wont cycle rounds it jams up . I had laid the gun on its side and used two handle squeeze type bar clamps with rubber tips to the bench when I was wailing on the sight. I don't think those clamps could have deformed anything ( I hope ) but anyhow the ruger is not safe to use till I figure it . any ideas welcome ...........Wayne

Obviously that spring was necessary. Don't know what it does on your Ruger; but on the S&W, one is for the mag safety disconnect. The other is for the firing pin safety.

Look up the parts diagram for your pistol at Brownell's or MidwayUSA.

I think it is part of the de-cocker/ safety. Did you loosen the allen screw on the rear sight before you started wailing on it.

Greetings Wayne, and welcome to the forum!

Sounds to me like you've let the firing pin block spring and the
firing pin block plunger, which you describe as a ball bearing,
"jump out". I'm guessing that the firing pin block is still
in place.

Anyway, you need those parts back in place for the Ruger to
cycle properly.

Best wishes and good luck!

I also have a P95, and just changed the sights. And yes, the parts are a must have. Try Numrich for ordering the parts, or contact Ruger directly. All you have right now is a high dollar paperweight

From what I just read, it sounds like that may be a good thing.

I don't think that the word "WAILING" and "firearm" should be used in the same sentence there wayne...But thats just me...Didn't your firearm come with a manual? I think common sence would dictate that those parts did "something". And for you to just assume that you "really don't need them anyways" causes me to pause and wonder if you should be owning a gun let alone attempting to modify one by WAILING on it with a hammer.

thanks for the reply's,I had assumed that the spring was for holding the sight on with tension as well as the screw in the sight itself. there was some tread lock goop on the sight as well which really was not needed as the sight is over sized for the slot hence the wailing with the hammer bit . yes I did remove the screw first.it will remain the perfect paper weight until I replace the parts.....cheers....
