Meet the Little Gun that Could HD VIDEO

You got to love the little Ruger LCP. If you are unable to carry something larger, or need a backup pistol, the "Elsie Pea" will do the trick. I had a good work out with my LCP at the gun club and this video features some discussion about the LCP with shooting and functional accuracy demonstrations. Terrific little guy.

How many of you guys carry an LCP? What's your favorite range ammo and carry ammo? Mine performed flawlessly with Critical Defense, but had a few fail to extracts with Blazer brass.

Lcp

I have have mine for over a year and over 2000 rounds fired, with NO failures. I've put everything I can through this gun. Just recently replaced springs through out and rod. The only issue I've had is the takedown pin broke off. Didn't cause any issues, just a challenge to get it out, lol.

I have shot all the way out to 25 yards and able to keep it in an 8" square. I can't say enough good about this gun, I absolutely love it!!! I also carry a Glock 26, depending on weather and cover clothing. But I have no worries whatsoever carrying Elsie! We did some clay test shooting. 12" block of clay, shooting hollowpoints, and tested several different kinds, and all of the big guys blew out almost the entire 12" in a spiral penetrating 11.8", very impressive.

I also use the pro-mag magazine with the lip on the bottom, really REALLY helps the grip :)

have fun!

I have an LCP that I put Wolff springs in to reduce the recoil. The Wolff springs cut the recoil down by about 1/3. I also have a S&W Bodyguard in .380 which I find myself carrying even more. Also if you want to move up a claiber , try the Ruger LC9. Very similar to the LCP, not much bigger but it is a little easier to handle for guys with bigger hands since the grip is a bit longer. The advantage of the LCP and S&W is they are so small you do not even know it is there, thus people are more prone to carry it since they are not strapping on 36 ozs. You ask about ammo, in both my LCP and S&W I use the Federal Low recoil which is 90gr.

I just picked up my LCP at the beginning of the summer. It has been a great pocket carry, so much so that a lot of times I forget that I have it in there. Haven't had much range time with it yet, hopefully I can remedy that in the next few weeks.

Currently I am using the Hornady Zombie Max, because the .380 hollow point selection at CTD was a little limited last time I was there.

HI PM, thanks for the tip on the Wolff spring. I may have to check it out. Elsie kicks like a little mule. And for the ammo tip too.

I'm pleased to report my FTE issues yesterday were clearly ammo related. Taking Ruger's advice, I tried out different ammo: Winchester White Box and put over 100 rounds through it this morning, not a single issue.

My LCP is about two years old now. I sold my 9 MM cause Elsie has taken over all ccw functions in my life.

She truly does "disappear" in a pocket holster in light summer attire.

Which holster have you found works best for you.

From what I've read there are pocket holsters designed for dress pant pockets and for jeans and so forth.

Still trying to decide which one is right for me.

You and I are clones. I carry the same thing. And, today, for fun, I tried it out to around twenty yards and kept the shots in a six inch target. Plenty effective enough for me.

I went with the generic one from WallMart. It has done fine and does break up the gun shape. My wife says that when she does notice it, it looks like a wallet in my right front pocket.

The Wolff springs can be found at Gunsprings.com. The standard spring that comes in the Ruger is a 9# spring I believe. The Wolff springs go up to 13# and that is what I put in mine. You will get the firing pin and trigger spring with the recoil spring, however I only replaced the recoil spring and had no problems.

As far as a holster, I use the Desantis Maverick. I prefer a thumb break since I am on a bike 90% of the time and want the added retention. I also like the j-clip feature since I can just grab it as I am heading out of the house. Although once I strap something on , it is on all day unless I have to go to work. Here is a link for the Desantis:

I have a very nice wallet style holster that I use for my front pocket. It does have a snap on leather piece if you want to have it in your back pocket and look like a wallet. I almost always keep it in my front pocket for work, dress pants. However i did make a couple holsters. One is a kydex only sleeve, that I can use in my front pocket, I do like it, but not as much as the leather, but I also made a leather kydex mix that looks similar to the Crossbreed microtuck. Now I don't know your skill level in making stuff, but I can highly recommend the Crossbreed microtuck (and supertuck for your glock 26!) Great products. I know there are some other brands, but I really do like Crossbreed.

Hope that helps and if you want some tips on making them, let me know. I still have the templates for leather and kydex cut out :)
