Medical Procedures

With the approaching storm, i was thinking about down loading Medical Procedures / practices and related info to a USB drive to keep handy in case of an emergency
also for the SHTF scenario

so with that said, is there a site that has all that type of info in one place that i can down load

I recommend the ALS Paramedic protocols that your fire department uses. They are all pretty much the same nationally, with slight variations. If you need help finding your area let me know and I'll search, or I can send you the few that I have.

What are you gonna do when the power goes out? I reccomend an actual book

For example, it's a lot of pages. I have two copies of these protocols, and copies of where I live now. They are good run down of emergency scene management, and while you may not have the training or experience they are pretty easy to understand. But yes like treo stated, better get a hard copy than a virtual.

definitely looking into CPR and first aid training, maybe thats what i'm actually looking for …..first aid procedures for when you're in the middle of nowhere and are forced to do something yourself
looking for a medical back pack for the truck/range or bug out bag that will have blood clot and instructions for small procedures
this will also be great for work as i am in the construction business

Lots of stuff like that available at Amazon. Put one on your wish list and more will automatically start showing up in your recommendations.

I suggest an EMT class or even an ETT class. These courses provide far more info than a first aid class. The basic first aid class is designed to provide enough info and skills to get you through a few minutes till the ambulance arrives. If all you are preparing for is the most likely event of an emergency around the home or office on any given day a first aid class may be enough. If you want skills to get you through in case of a disaster where the system is overloaded a more advanced class will serve you better.

ETT is (was) Alaska only. An EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) course would be much less expensive than EMT, and would cover most of the same information. The First Responder certification (what Alaska called an ETT) no longer exists. EMR replaced it. But keep in mind that these are mainly first level/triage level treatments designed mainly to get a trauma patient to higher level care. When you say you're thinking about "Medical Procedures / practices", it sounds like you want something beyond just first level. I'd still advise the course, but you'll also need books for the higher level stuff.

You will need far more than just printouts or books. You need practical training, experience and supplies...

Lots of practice and experience.

After 30 years in nursing, in many different areas of practice, I'd still be very hard pressed to perform adequately in an emergency, especially if I was alone. I have the knowledge and the supplies, but I'm seriously lacking in real world experience of medical emergencies without expert backup.

You can't get experience out of books.

I don't think anybody is questioning that. But in the scenarios he's talking about, a book is better than nothing. I doubt we'd be able to talk him into a nursing career, though it certainly would help.

lol yep not planning on any transplants, just small miner stuff to get you out of a jam,
books would help with edible plants in the area and how to live of the land, i have never hunted before but have fished for salt and fresh water fish

Sounds like you are looking more for a survivalist book than a medical book.

yes , my wording was off a little bit lol trying to watch this storm the last few days, we had transformers blowing up around us, power going in and out blowing fuses it was a little crazy in NJ but every thing is fine for us now

survivalist book and the basic supplies is what i'm looking for and not the cheap crap that these large corporate stores carry, i'm looking for quality
i have a small first aid kit and hate the fact that the bandaids don't stick or the scissors are hard to use and don't cut, for that i would be looking at a medical kit for the better supplies
