Maryland's gun law ruling

Being a long time resident of Maryland but now living in North Carolina, I can't help but wonder what is now going to happen back in my old home state; now that a federal ruling has found Maryland's gun-carry law unconstitutional. I was just curious if anyone may know somebody in the legislature back in MD that might have shared some inside info as to what this all means for those law abiding citizens that want to carry. I would have liked to have had a permit to carry when I lived there but did not qualify under their strict requirements. Any news would be appreciated.

Probably nothing, States like MD ignore the fact that there laws aren't legal all the time. They'll come up with the excuse "Ok, well have to get the law changed then" which takes time. In that time they'll appeal to a crooked judge some how to reverse it. There is no May Issue state that DOESN'T know there infringing on our rights. It's just a stupid act. I'm originally from MA which is May Issue but they've got NOTHING on MD!

The State is playing the court system right now...asking for a Stay on the decision to give them time to appeal it. There are a good number of folks that have since submitted applications. See Maryland Shooters - powered by vBulletin ...there are a couple very active threads...updates, How to apply, etc.

I live in PA...and as soon as I can get my hands on a set of MD fingerprint cards I'll be submitting as well.

mrjam2jab, the Md Shooters website is a great resource of info. I have friends and relatives that will be very interested in visiting it. I appreciate the info!

The ruling is pretty clear, however until the appeals are through the judge has held off on making its effects felt... so we wait and see how things go with the appeals process, if they fail the result is MD becomes a shall issue state.

MD Gun laws

As a former resident of MD I would be very surprised if the liberal democratic government ever allowed citizens to carry regardless of the Federal ruling. I have a CCW permit in PA and can carry in Va but have to store my gun in the trunk when driving through MD. I live on the PA border and have to plan my trips before I head out JIC I may end up in MD. MD is extremely anti-gun for legal carry but they have the highest crime rate in the country.

All states are "may-issue." All states that issue permits have provisions in the law to deny certain persons. Thus "shall-issue" states aren't. Just sayin.

I hear what your saying gunning999. My daughter and her husband live in Frederick, Md. They want to move to Pa. just to get away from Maryland's liberal government, not to mention their taxes. And also to be able to get a permit to carry. He may be waiting a long time for Md's carry laws to change for the better. We can only hope they do.

Well, Rugerite, as a current long time resident of MD, I can tell you I have the same question. Just look at the stranglehold the Demomcrat liberals have on this state, increasing with the gerrymandering after the latest census, and you get the feeling that they will do nothing, or drag their feet, in response to the Federal Court decision. SO, unless you threaten me with a gun, nuclear hand grenade or a knife with a blade longer than the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, I still won't have a prayer for a concealed carry permit. See how long it took Washington DC to issue their first handgun permit after the Federal Court made their decision...YEARS! The Court's decision is a great win for us. I just don't feel that this state will ever comply...in my lifetime. Perhaps it's time for me to move out of MD!
