Marines Down on obama

The Marine Corps Times previews its cover story about anti-Obama Marines at their 'Battle Rattle' blog.

According to the article, of the 792 active-duty troops and mobilized reservists who responded to this year's Military Times Poll, 44 percent said that they disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job as commander in chief.

The article cites hot button issues such as repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," relaxing restrictions of women in combat, and steep budget cuts, behind the disapproval numbers.

The report highlights the recent controversy over a Tea Party Facebook page operated by active Marine Sgt. Gary Stein.

The full article is available only to Marine Times subscribers.

I don't know when and how it changed, but when I was in the Navy, we were not allowed to speak publicly about politics. If we were caught in uniform at any type of political function speaking our mind, we were in trouble.

Giving opinions in a newspaper was unheard of.

We had an old Master Chief mention the election at quarters one morning with no more to say than to make sure we knew which candidate had the military's best interest in mind before we voted.

He was chastised by the CO of the command for even saying that. He let us know at one of the next quarters and explained why he was in error.

Apparently it's not like that any more.

Hopefully that number is much higher than it seems.
Another 4 years and you will see a all out war on our gun rights.

It's not just the Marines. My son is in the Army, tho he won't say anything in public for the reasons already mentioned, he has told me in private the people around him feel the same about Obama.

My impression is that the Army, the Navy and the AirForce are run by wussie generals and admirals who like their jobs and have noses the same color as the yada yada of the whitehouse resident. Only the Marines have the true honor and integrity to actually think about rebuking this piece of moslem turd and that is why he continually denigrates them and has been reducing their strength. If, come Nov, he has decided that being the holy emperor of all things US, he has to be sure that the Marines do not get in the way of his brownshirt SEIU, Acorn and the wusses in the Army. Just some thoughts from a crazy old coot who truly believes this country is in dire straits and will get a whole lot worse before it ever, if ever, gets better.

I was never a Marine, but did serve in other branches of service. I will say this since I'm not in uniform. :-) OBAMA = One Big @$$ Mistake America. If after seeing our country become worse of then when he took office isn't enough to convince the majority of citizens to vote the bum out of office in November, then we are in more trouble than any of us can imagine.

The many should have never been elected in the first place, and now that all of the "hope and change" failed, obama needs to be voted out of office yesterday.

Glock Fan there are no ex-marines. Unless you were drummed out for conduct unbecoming or less than honorable.

SgtBill, The new term is Marine Veteran......no more former Marines.

Bttbbob,
I was in the Marine's most likely long before you were born ( I am 65) and was proud to be called a former marine and still am. I will stick with that altho 2 of my son's can be called Marine Veteran's.

From what I've read, it IS still that way. Basically they're telling these guys "When you signed up, you agreed the president was your boss. Suck it up."

The can dislike it all they want, but the rules still say they are not to air their grievances publicly.

When I was in the service I would not have verbalized anything against my commander in chief and I would certainly not have put it in writing. Fewer than eight hundred respondents about barry's fitness to be commander in chief. That should tell us something in itself. I would not have responded to this, when I was in the Army, and I guess that even today that it would be more heavily weighted for the pro-barry votes. I would expect that a sense of duty would prevent many from responding. I am actually surprised that so many spoke out against barry. Saying things favorable about those of higher rank is generally well received where negative comments or political statements are not.

I used to bust on the brass all the time. Must have done something right or maybe they got tired and promoted me to "shop steward". Took a hiatus when obama took office at the pay grade of E-9.

I plan to finish out the two years I need to retire once the American people manage go get obama out of office.
