What would you have done?

Your link is dead. Great story though, I found it on another site. Can you believe the police chief.. "We don't encourage this kind if behavior but we appreciate citizens looking out for each other if they're are willing to accept the consequences." Ya, I'm sure that woman really would have appreciated it if that guy had just called 911 and then stood their and watched until the cops got there.

Interesting that the police chief would say that he doesn't encourage citizens to do what this gentleman did. So what would he encourage them to do? Call the police and pray that the woman hasn't been beaten to death by the time they arrive?

Asked and Answered, before hand.

I feel the police chief is concerned with whether a citizen who makes the choice to stop and put themselves in harms way is ready and willing to accept the consequences that come with making this decision.
A lot can go wrong when you decide to take this action. Granted it is the proper moral action, but is frought with possibilities that everyone is not going to think about in that split second. This the question you have to have already asked and anwsered before it occurs, so you are ready to react when the time occurs.
With that said I understand the Chief's comments, but feel they needed to be clarified by him at the time for the publics sake.

The Marine showed the moral character of every Marine I know. This moral judgement is not just a Marine characteristc but has been demostrated by verteran from all of our Armed Forces. It goes to the character of those in our nation that are willing to take on the responsibility to serve. Thanks to all of you.

Dont know about all of you but I have this deep agression towards men who beat up women. I would have stopped and helped her without hesitation. We need more situations like these. No, not more beatings of women but people willing to help someone in trouble in thier community. Send people who do horrible things like these the message that we will not tolerate this type of behavior.

Yep. First time I was suspended from school was 6th grade. I slammed a kids head into a payphone after I saw him choking a girl up against a wall. School reversed its decision the next day and let me come back. I probably wouldn't go that far today but doesn't mean I wouldn't want to.

Doncha love how Link Removed had to include a comment from an anti. Just to keep it all fair and balanced, you know.

It sounded a bit like a threat coming from the police chief. Maybe when someone sees him or someone from his family getting the hell beat out of them they may just recall the threat. I wonder how many bullet holes the bad guy would have in him if it had been the cops that rolled up on the situation...probably a few more than necessary.

Good story. Question though. For all of you who support what this man did. Would the scenario change at all for you if the victim was male or does that not make a difference to you?
