"Marine blogs say U.S. embassy did not authorize service members to carry ammo"
When are American policy makers finally going to realize that folks in the middle east do not respect a show of force? Like when we went in to Beirut. Policy makers were told that if we insisted on going in, we had to be armed to the teeth and ready to rock and roll, that they wouldn't respect a show of force. But they rejected the advice they were given, and Marines died as a result. Now we're in Egypt, and the ambassador has decided that Egyptians will respect a show of force. I hope we don't end up with another Marines barracks event.

***UPDATE***
The Independent, a British publication, is now reporting that the State Department had intelligence 48 hours prior to the attack that it was coming, but failed to warn diplomats to go on high alert and lock down the embassies (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/revealed-inside-story-of-us-envoys-assassination-8135797.html). As we all had already figured out, the production of a certain movie was merely a pretext to carry out the attacks, scheduled for 9-11, and the fact that Ambassador Stevens had only been back in Libya a short time after returning from a trip abroad and his trip to Benghazi was confidential also indicates that an intelligence breach occurred.
"U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson 'did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,' according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. 'She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.'"
