This is from Consumerist.com. "at a screening of The Bourne Legacy near Reno, Nev. had a bit of a scare on Tuesday night, when a man adjusted himself in his seat and ended up discharging his gun right into his own backside."

Here is the link: The Consumerist » Man Politely Apologizes, Promptly Leaves ‘Bourne Legacy’ After Accidentally Shooting Himself In The Butt

Long discussion in the comments for this article. Moderately interesting.

Man, what a butt head. How do you shoot your self in the butt? I'm sure it had a drop safety on it, he had to pull the trigger.

Who knows how he was actualy carrying the gun, the artical said it fell and hit the floor and discharged, funny how the gun hit its target all by itself, I'm sorry its not funny, the moron or another movie goer could have been badly hurt, I carry 100% of the time but if we go to the movie I ankle carry, and my wife also carys on her ankle, with a BUG in her purse, ..........you cannot sit in those theater seat with a normal holster, comfortably anyhow, and I nornaly carry two, but because of the seats its just one in a ankle rig

Doubt if it was dropped mostly sob or IWB behind back ,sat on it squirrmed a bit trigger was not moving due to weight yet pistol did, like as in bump fire, move the gun hold the trigger it still fires.A great many semi auto pistols have no safety relying on a long but not hard da pull.P32 I think is long yet 5 lbs, recent off duty police offer and a glock, who got hugged from behind and he tried to reholster pushing the opposite direction,it has a trigger safety as well yet both must have been caught.Odd you cant import a gun due to 1968 laws that do not have them (safety) yet can make them here,A firing pin safety is a drop or block safety, grip safety is a help, yet not a trigger or hammer safety.
Reholstering such in a fiber or leather IWB is difficult as they fold up,and depending upon ones cheeks may or may not due to thightness and form fitting can hold the trigger still while you push down and engage the firing action.
Would love to have a p32 all they need do is place a safety on it ,current pistol once in depending upon surroundings may even take it off it does have a long stiff da pull.
Where one wears it at is also pro or con they are called pocket pistols most without a manual safety at least in the smaller calibers therefore a front pocket in a pocket holster.
If this isnt a problem why every month do we hear of someone discharging one.
They do drop tests, long da pulls possibly even a trigger safety , if one holds one still most likely the other will be,no proof testing and no manual safeties req as this is the usa and not being imported we can make our own mess.
Id rather carry cocked n locked with a strap holster than use one without a manual safty, even if not on permanmently

Actually I carry IWB SOB even tough I have a pocket pistol=PT22 Tagua leather holster,nd do use the manual safety to reholster, even though it does have about a 9lb long trigger pull.

I have never had any issues with normal IWB or OWB carry in the theater. No idea what happened, but I'm sure this guy is a moron and was not carrying properly.

I wonder how many times this guy might have been told that carrying like that may not be a good idea.

We really dont know how we was carrying or what actualy happened, we know what he told the authoritys, I'm sure he didn't intentionaly shoot himself in the butt, one thing is for sure, I don't think he will do it again, just glad another movie patron was not hit, don't need to give the antis more fuel

Bet it was a glock. No fringing safety on those things and they account for 75% of these accidently discharges. Fool. Should have bought a safety add on kit if he had to have a black glock.

1) the trigger safety, 2) the firing pin safety, and c) the drop safety.-no conventional safety.
Carried in a horizontal shoulder rig,if hugged from behind and pistol is being pushed or unseated and you reseat from the front it can go off,if both triggers are held still. The other two safeties are for dropping basically.
Its smaller cousins like the P32 have a very long trigger pull yet 5lbs,placing in a folded up leather holster IWB you or the leather can also stop the trigger, forward motion of you placing it in can set it off.
Not being used to various types of carry tried several methods with my lil pt 22 unloaded, most pocket holsters tended to come out with it,yet an uncle bucks velcro while it didnt work in pocket did IWB not having weight on belt, then was gifted with a Tagua leather, visually saw the hammer rise a tad when tight, therefore take finger open and insert with safety on.
Id love something like a p32 or a glock if they placed conventional safeties on them.Depending upon double triggers to keep a 45 a1 from going off wouldnt be safe now would it or would it also has a grip safety and most carry when cocked -locked,that glock is a hybred not really da more like longer sa.Police locker room holes in lockers are a myth, and all those who speak against such dont carry one.Yup we dont feel they are safe,or I dont anyway. They are made less likely to go off,not so they cant go off until made to do so.
Im not new to guns, just to placing in a holster and carrying.

The responsible armed citizen is the best safety...can't blame "negligent" discharges on the weapon. Even a glock will not fire by itself.

Bet you don't know wtf you are talking about.
Bet you are a Troll.

This type of thing hurts all CCW people. Guns going off accidentally really scares the public. Thank God it hit his butt and not his head or someone else's vital organs. USE A HOLSTER, even if it's a pocket holster. Also if it has a manual safety use it. Good gunbelt, good holster are part of CCW carrying. Come on people don't get complacent about carrying any gun.
People get very scared when a gun goes off.
