Mailed non resident application

I sent my applications out yesterday for non resident permit for Connecticut and Massachusetts. Wonder how long and how it goes.

Hey Cap Gun,
I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you are politically connected or are employed by a security firm of some sorts doing business in Massachusetts, there is no way on God's green earth you will receive a permit from Ma. Any money you sent I'm afraid is gone also, as everything is non-refundable. You should be alright with your Connecticut permit. I hold several permits, including one from your great state, Pa. I'm afraid you are going to find, Ma is a world unto itself. I sincerely wish that I would be wrong in this case, but I think you'll find I'm not.

Really? The MA website doesnt make it seem that difficult. Granted you have to pick it up in person...but the instructions seem simple enough...???

Would a person with a class A non resident concealed carry license issued to him or her by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts please step forward.

I think I should at least ge the interview. They asked for a detailed explaination of why I wanted one. That can open up alot to consider if it is in writing. I hope to tell that in person. All I said was my reason was ..for all lawful purposes, including but not limited to protection. Also for future firearm training. ( I mentioned a place in Mass.)
We'll see but I think I should get the interview!
Again thanks all for your input.

I wish you the very best of luck, and please keep us posted of the progress. After reading the several posts on this subject, I must admit that I am totally flabbergasted to become aware of even a few people who have managed to obtain a Ma permit. Maybe little by little they are shifting gears. Believe me no one will be any more pleased than I if and when national reciprocity is adopted. Thanks to everyone for the feed back.

I hope I am correct but I actually believe that from what I have read it is easier for a non res of Mass to get a permit then a resident. After all we will be in the state less time then you Mass residents....enough said

Received my CT permit today. 42 days from send date. Wish my Florida permit was the same.... but I forgot to sign the damn fingerprint card. Got that back in the mail on Saturday so I could sign and send back. duh!!!!

Good news! I received my Connecticut non res permit today! As per my first post on this thread I sent it out 3/25. The permit states it was issued on 4/28 so with some time to get here that is a total of 39 days.
Now I hope to hear from Mass for an interview for that state non res permit.
I will do my research and double check but any of you Conn. CCP holders res and non please give me any tips and info so I stay on the correct side of the law when in the "nutmeg" state!
Thanks all

I hold a Mass non-res permit. Ive renewed it 4 times, they have never given me a problem. I dont knwo anyone.

Hey Cap Gun, Dootman back at ya!
Thank you for the update, and sorry to hear about the long wait you are having. I have done some research and I am inclined to totally agree with you that it is much easier for a non resident to obtain a permit in Ma than for a resident. I guess it is their idea of some type of reciprocity with out of state permits, and they have figured out a way to suck $100.00 a year out of people for the privilege. I do feel that you will eventually receive your Ma permit. I'm never in Ma, except for just passing through on I 495, so for me it would not be worth it. Along with my resident Maine license I hold non-resident licenses in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. This allows me to carry in 31 states, hopefully 32, when Iowa's new law goes into effect in January. Best of luck to you. Hope you visit Maine sometime.

As mentioned in my above post CT only took around 31 days. My FL permit took 49 days total and that was with me screwing up and forgetting to sign one of the fingerprint cards and they mailed it back to me. Sent that back in 5/3 and received the permit 2 weeks later.

FL states up to 90 days, so 49 days is great in my book. Hang in there Cap, I'm sure it's coming soon.

I live in upstate NY and Monroe county now is around a one year wait. When I got mine in 2003 it was around 6 or 7 months..... so Mass doesn't seem that bad.

I was at a class a few weeks ago and a Monroe County Sheriff stated that they are pretty backed up b/c 'everyone' now wants a permit b/c they're afraid if they don't do it now....

FL permit adds 30+ states to my carry status. Enough now to drive most places without a hassle [still a few states to avoid]. :girl_wink:

Just an update on the Mass non res permit: I called them to find out if my NRA course that was not given by an instructor certified by Mass. The person I talked to said they were a bit behind but if I needed anything else I would get a letter telling my what I needed and could then take care of it. Will get back when I hear from them.
