I have much Love for my Colt AR. But, I was installing the Magpul ASAP single sling mount when I discovered how intensely Colt had staked the original end plate.
The staking was so hard hit that it was impossible to remove the end plate. The staking was into the threads. I wanted the single point sling mount on so I used the castle nut to drive the plate off the buffer tube. This damaged the threads slightly in a straight line. The other result was the pivot pin spring was damaged but I was able to reinstall it.
I have no experience with the pivot pin spring so I hope the rifle functions properly this coming Wednesday when my 12 year old gets to shoot it for the first time.
Generally I love the way Colt does things with their weapons, this time I think it was over kill.
I have a set of springs ordered but I don't think they will be here in time.
