M&P or XD?

Ive been looking at the M&P40 for a few weeks. I'm saving up some and waiting on a bonus check from work. I've held the M&P and squeezed the trigger a few times at my LGS. But yesterday the XD40 caught my eye. It's only 10 dollars more. It isn't quite as good looking. I don't know a lot about the XD. I like the M&P but I'm still researching and would appreciate any input.

Thanks

I don't know if you have looked at Barretta, but realy like my px4 storm compact .40. Accurate and not much recoil.

M&P or XD?

Can't go wrong with any of the big ones: Glock, S&W, Beretta, or Springfield. Hold all of them, see how they feel, and how they point. I began and am still partial to my XD(M) and XD-S. Recently got into the Glock market after getting. a good deal on a Glock 26 which felt really good in hand. Have since added a Glock 19, and can't wait to put some down range with them.

Glock, XD* and M&P lines are all great and nearly interchangeable in quality and performance.
Handle samples of all 3 and see which one you like the feel (ergonomics, trigger pull/reset, manipulation) of best and enjoy.
Personally I was happy with my Glock 19 but wanted to get a more "competition ready" gun and had a hard time deciding between the Glock 34 and M&P Pro 9.
The ergonomics and lower bore axis of the M&P Pro were the deciding factor and I have been extremely happy with my choice.
The only point I was less pleased about was the trigger feeling too squishy due to the hinged trigger safety design, but upgrading the trigger with the Apex Forward Set Sear and Trigger resolved that and surpassed all other DAO or Striker fired triggers I have ever felt, rivaling a decent SA trigger such as a 1911.

I have heard goods things about the XD but I just purchased a M&P.40 Shield and have to say it is incredible - especially compared to my LC9. Besides being a better looking gun, it's more accurate and dependable as well as better sights but what I like most about my Shield is that even though it's a small gun, it has a full size feel to it.

You can not go wrong with either one in terms of quality and reliability. It really comes down to what one feels and points best for you.

To be honest... I'd say both if I could afford it. I was looking for a subcompact and the Shield and XDs were pretty equal. Tough choice. I know, not the same size range, and not remotely helpful.

A) You really can't go wrong with either of those models.
B) Have you considered any of the Glock .40 caliber models?
C) If you haven't tried one, consider it.. .if you like it you've saved yourself even more money that you can now spend on ammo. This is truly where gun owners spend their money.

Just my $0.02.

Well i got my money saved up and went in to my LGS yesterday afternoon. They had the Glocks priced better than the other 2 so I held a Glock 22 and a Glock 23. I wanted full size and high capacity so I leaned more toward the 22. It is a Gen 3 and it is a little square feeling on he backstrap. It has good balance and points good for me. The guy made me a deal on it. I got it for $480. I brought it home and took it apart and cleaned and lubed it. I'm going to the range tomorrow...

This was from my second mag... 10 rounds from 10 paces. I shot more but my son and I were sharing targets and messing them up pretty bad. Then we shot some cans and stuff. I have to say it's a shooter. I'm sure it'll shoot better than I can. I like it. This was my first outing with it. I'll get better. I'm not a Glock fanboy or anything. I have a few other pistols in my stable. I just wanted a 15 round magazine 40 cal and this one fits the bill. My son and I had an awesome day shooting together.

I have my compacts covered... I'm looking at full sized, full magazine pistols right now. My next handgun purchase will be a full sized 9mm.

You should look at the XDm versus the M&P.

The match barrel, the polished ramp, the fact you don't have to pull the trigger to field strip, and better trigger make the XDm a better gun. In my opinion you should never have to pull the trigger to take a gun apart. I believe the M&P doesn't require a trigger pull either.

I have both the XDM and XDs in .45 I carry the s and keep the M in the truck for when **** hits the fan. Both shoot very acccurately and dependably. The XDs was among those recalled and event tho I had experienced no failures I sent it in (shipped at Springfields expense) and it was returned two months later with an extra Mag for the inconvenience. I was always informed of progress by Springfield and felt it spoke volumes about the companies customer service. I also own STI, Kimber and Taurus 45's but for the price and function the springfields are exceptional.

I had 2 XD40s, I sold one and still have the other, but I seldom ever shoot it. I will probably sell it too. I bought my wife and M&P40 compact. I have also shot my friends full size M&P 9mm. Both guns are great and cant go wrong with either one. I found the XDs to feel a little "top heavy". It has a high profile slide action that feels kinda awkward. The M&P feels really good in my hand and comes with adjustable grips which allows for more customizing to your hand. I prefer the M&P.

What the heck is a gamecock?

They are both great guns, and I have had both. I will say (and this is just personal preference) I like the XD line much better. The M&P feels like it has slightly less recoil, but I still prefer the XD.
