M&P Mag Drop Problems

I have been reading about M&P pistols dropping mags at random and was wondering if that problem has been solved and what are your experienses with the M&P line. I really want an M&P they fit great in my hand but dont want to risk having mag drops when I really need the pistol to preform.

No problems for me...

Between us, my wife I have three M&P9's used for instruction classes and range shooting. Two of them have had several thousand rounds each through them. We have had zero problems of any kind. They just work.

My wife handled and shot Glocks, XD's, M&P's... and chose an M&P9 JG. I sent it to the S&W Performance Center for their M&P Action Package which included a new sear and some tweaking. She is very happy with it.

I liked her pistol enough that I bought an M&P9 Pro Series pistol and, being disappointed with it initially, had Apex do their Level-2 trigger job on it. REALLY nice!

Out of the box, the trigger is certainly serviceable and a good argument can be made that you shouldn't mess with it, especially if it is a defensive weapon. In our case, the M&P's are range toys only.

If you like the M&P, I don't think you will regret going in that direction.

M&P45 and 40c. Not an issue with either. Carry the 40c almost every day and have never had any magazine release problems. Pushing a fully loaded magazine into the gun with the slide fully forward and closed requires some force to seat it fully, but once it clicks it stays.

Check the dates on the posts or reports etc. They did make a small change to the magazine. The edge that passes over the mag catch when inserting has a slight indent to ease insertion and eliminate mag catch hangup on the newer mags. I have an older magazine for my 45 that does not have that indent and I noted the slight hang when trying a fast mag swap. I fixed it with a Dremmel by removing some material on the edge to make it more blade like and then softening the edge so it was not sharp. I works just like the others that have the indent now.

The M&P is a outstanding firearm I have owned two of them(fullsize 40,Compact 9)soon to be a 40C or another 9C. The one thing you hear people bitch about when it comes to the M&P is the trigger. The stock pull weight is around 5-7 pounds(maybe more if you live in the Masshole state or other states that have laws on that). But you can get that down to a 3-3.5 pound trigger pull or a competition trigger job that brings it down to 2.25 pounds. The New Hampshire state police duty issuse weapon is the M&P 45. Cant go wrong with the M&P! But it comes down to what you like as a shooter in the end. You will have people who will try and tell you to get everygun under the sun because it's the best lol.

I think that problem was only with the early 40's and it was fixed quickly. I think they replaced the frames because it was a mag well problem. So far, over 500 LEO depts have switched over the the M&P line so they must be doing something right.

I have the M&P 40 never had an issue with it, had it almost a year and had several thousand rounds through it, like everyone else says, theyre great weapons, preform well. Never heard of random mag drops from it until now. Id recommend it to anyone.

Apex Tactical has a collection of kits that will fix or adjust trigger pull without altering stock parts. The kits have drop in parts that fit and work well. If the firearm has to be sent back for service for some reason, the drop in parts can be removed so warranty issues do not arise.

I've installed 3 and have had no issues.

Apex Tactical has a collection of kits that will fix or adjust trigger pull without altering stock parts. The kits have drop in parts that fit and work well. If the firearm has to be sent back for service for some reason, the drop in parts can be removed so warranty issues do not arise.

Yeah I have been looking at something like that but I would want a gun smith to do it. Smith & Wesson is backed up and the wait time is 3-6 weeks for a trigger job.

After watching the videos, I figured I COULD install the Apex package myself but TO ME it was worth what it cost to have Apex do the work. It's not that Apex charges too much, it's the shipping back and forth that makes it expensive.

I can't say enough good things about Apex. Their stuff is excellent and they are wonderful to deal with.

I am still on the fence about the M&P but the glock 19 or 23 is not looking to bad either and havent heard to bad on them so will just have to see, but thanks for the help guys.

My trigger was MA compliant, at 10lb 7oz it was a necessity to fix it. 5lb 4oz by the Lyman pull gauge now... All 3 done were in the same range give an oz or 2. The reset is about 3/16 of an inch and very positive.

I may play with it and do it myself I'm still up in the air. I really don't want to F*** anything up seeing as how it is my carry firearm. It would drop it down to about a three pound trigger or I can drop it down to a two pound LOL (I think that would be a little to much).
