M&P 9 or M&P 9c

I'm torn between purchasing an M&P 9 in full size or compact. I plan to use it for both IDPA/USPSA and occasional carry (I work in education so everyday carry is not an options) so I can dress for the gun to some degree when I do choose to carry. Has anyone made this decision and loved the side they came down on? Any regrets? Certainly there are many who would say have both, but I prefer to have one gun that I get very comfortable with and the price of a second gun can buy a lot of ammo or a good training class (or maybe 1 gun is just crazy thinking).

why not both

I have the 9c. Bought the full size mags with the grip extensions so when I want, it looks and feels like the full size with just a shorter barrel length. Carry with short mags. Play at the club with the 16 round mags. Versatile without owning both.

Full size, without question. I carry one every day in an IWB holster and wear an untucked, square-tailed overshirt. Save up and get something like a Walther PPS for easier CC later. On weekends and outside in hot weather, I carry a Kel-tec PF-9 IWB, under an untucked T-shirt. Nice & thin, no printing. (I'm saving up for that equally thin, but higher quality & more accurate Walther PPS)

I carry full size S&W M&P 40 My wife has the Sub. I have carried both and I can tell a little difference but not as much as you think. Now hers is easier to conceal in some clothes but that is about it and I just adjust my cant a little more forward when I dress lighter but I love the feel that full size gives me when I have to snatch it from its holster seems to be more consistent for me as my hands are not huge but not small either so for me it's the full size. If you are looking for a holster I highly recommend the Mackenzie Holsters IWB Link Removed. I have one and it is awesome and extremely comfortable.

Normally I'd say go with the C, since you can use the adapter and a normal mag, but for your needs go full size. You'll want the steadier grip and full barrel.

For carry I recommend the Compact version. But again to each its own. You can use the full magazines on the compact, also I have competed with my sprinfield Xd9 sub and the S&W9c in IDPA and USPSA so you can compete with both of them. I see no huge advantage in using a long slide and a compact model when you are in a competition of that kind.

Your not shooting at 50,75 or 100yrd.

but the ultimate decision is going to be you and the comfort level you have on both with the one you pick...both are excellent...also get the Le package if you can... it is worth it.

I would go with the full size.

I'm not sure who the wise man was, but the thought is "Beware the man who only has one Gun...He probably knows how to use it"

Thanks for all the input. Since I can't carry everyday and would have no dress requirements on occasions when I could carry, I think I'm going to go with the full size M&P - range and carry kit if I can find anyone that has one in stock.

One more question from someone new to guns, I'm close to Tulsa and there's a large gun show there this week. Do prices on current production guns tend to be any better at a gun show or about the same I could find in a local gun shop or online?

Steve, how much easier is the compact to conceal? Was it. Pain in the tail to conceal the FS or did you just get the compact to make it a bit easier?

I haven't carried either. Only experimented with carrying them in the house. I hear of a lot of people that conceal the full size but, for me, that would be tough. I wear T-Shirts and jeans or shorts most of the time.... The compact would be much easier to carry in my opinion.
