Awesome: Louisiana Strips Food Stamp Benefits From Welfare Recipients Who Took Advantage of Glitch To Go On Spending Spree At Walmart…
By: Associated Press
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s social services department said Monday it has stripped food stamps from six people who deliberately overspent their monthly benefits when the electronic service was down in October and was working to disqualify another 25 people.

Details of possible fraud also have been shared with local law enforcement, for district attorneys to decide if they want to prosecute people for knowingly breaching the limits on their monthly food stamp benefits.

The Department of Children and Family Services said it continues to work through the administrative hearing process, targeting 500 people out of 12,000 transactions that overspent available food stamp benefits four months ago during the system crash.

“The investigation and disqualification process is ongoing, and we expect it to result in additional disqualifications,” DCFS Secretary Suzy Sonnier said in a statement.

Several Louisiana retailers allowed food stamp recipients to make unlimited purchases on Oct. 12, when the electronic card system was down and balances couldn’t be checked. News reports showed carts at some stores piled high with groceries that were abandoned after the system was back online.

About 12,000 insufficient funds transactions were conducted when the contractor, Xerox Corp., had technical problems that shut down the system, though not all transactions are assumed to be intentionally fraudulent.

Oh my god... watch out... someone is going to get taken to the back room and fired for actually holding people accountable for their actions. Personal responsibility? Nope... not for the entitled. Just for those of us who are paying for it all.

Must be nice one state will actually do that. There's a list part way down on this page showing how much each state pays in welfare for each leech.
Mine's 23rd highest. Not the worst, but not in the bottom half either. And our cost of living is not very high.

I can see cutting benefits until the deficit is paid in full, I could even see feeding them straight comodities beans and ricwe but you don't just cut a person's only means to eat.

If they have the money pay the deficit, then they have the money to eat. But we both know, they knew they were breaking the law & didn't have the balance on their cards, all they were trying to do is scam Walmart and the system, so the old saying goes here, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime".

If it's a crime then you try them and jail them or you cut their cash benefits until the debt is paid. You don't take people's means of getting food from them.

How about they eat all the food they stole. Then they can have three hots and a cot.

Food stamps are not the only way for some of them to eat. There is always work, repugnant though it may be.

Only means? Apparently you don't know a lot of people on the food stamp program.

Point of order, they didn't steal food they stole money which they used to buy food

Correction, they stole MY money, and they stole YOUR money, and they stole everyone who gets up off their arse and works for a living's money.

I may be cold and heartless, but screw em. I have seen way too many abuses of this particular system to feel the slightest bit of remorse for these handful of nefarious miscreants.

Your talking semantics, stealing is stealing no matter what it is and they knew fully that they were committing a crime and with that they should be held accountable and have their privileges taken away and prosecuted for the theft. They signed a paper saying they would have their EBT cards canceled if they abuse it and this is a major abuse of those privileges that they were given. Bottom line is, they tried to scam the system when the computer system went down and were caught, I say serves them right and I hope all the others who did it, get charged and held accountable also.

I actually don't know anyone on foodstamps but it doesn't change the principle I'm getting at which is, if these folk are going go hungry becuase their food assistance was cut then you don't cut their food assistance

I'm all for holding them accountable but there are ways to do that with out them going hungry

If ya take most pain away from people, they'll never try to correct why they are in pain the first place. Be it financial, spiritual, physical, or emotional. I fully support feeding those that cannot do for themselves. NOT feeding those that will not care for themselves or their children. This is the only country that will feed you so much on the Gov't dole that after a while you can claim disability for being so obese. AND this is really what the end to the means is? Reward slothful behavior verses empower those that don't have to learn the means to EARN a living.

I am in agreement with you. Everything I have was because I worked. I had to work and earn money and despite all the gubment interference, taxes and such, I managed to save enough to buy and accumulate stuff. (Some of which my wife says is junk that I don't need!) :haha: But to the parasites I have "to much" and should be made to share with those who have less.

Soon the lib-o-rats will build a secure fence on our borders to keep those of us who work from leaving!

I doubt they will go hungry. I'd be surprised if a majority of them weren't 50lb's or more over weight. If they have to stop buying Doritos, Ding Dongs and Dew on my dime so much the better.

John Stossel of Fox news did a on the street survey with 50 to 100 people in line to obtain their welfare / food stamps items and he asked them why, since they were healthy and looked like they could work, why they didn't go out and get a job and get off welfare. 85% of them said there wasn't any jobs out there and they didn't want to try.
Jon then went out into their local neighborhood and went to a large number of businesses and asked them if they were hiring and he was told they couldn't get enough people to hire, and they would even take a person who didn't have any experience, because they needed them so bad.
This just goes to prove that, the majority of these people who are on welfare don't want to get off the government dole and don't what to even try and look for work.
