-Parents rushed by the hundreds to a High School in Lexington, KY yesterday and checked their children out of school after a rumor got started that there was a shooting at the school. One parent interviewed said that they "would rather be safe than sorry". It turned out that one student had made a threatening statement to another student and the race was on. The student has been charged with terroristic threatening.
-Gun sales have skyrocketed in Kentucky (and across the nation) since last Friday. One gun store owner stated that people were coming in and buying anything that they fear will be banned in the near future. I guess I contributed to this as I bought a Ruger LC9 on Saturday - not because I was fearful of them being banned. My son bought one for himself, along with a LCP .380 for his wife last week, and I liked the looks and feel of the LC9 for a concealed carry pistol over what I had been using. See, I'm not anti-gun as some have concluded due to another post I made, but I can live with it.
-Politicians in my state are lining up to get on the gun-control bandwagon. One stood at a news conference yesterday and with tears streaming down his face apologized for not having done anything or voted for gun control measures in the past, but promised to "change and correct this in the future". I do believe that this is the cheapest publicity stunt I have ever seen a politician pull.
-One foreign ambassador interviewed on national TV yesterday said that most foreign countries think that it is rediculous how many gun-related deathes there are in the US every year. "Thees do not happen in my country", he stated, but it was interesting to note that he forgot to add that his country is basically ruled by a dictatorship.
It will be both interesting and scary to see what today brings....
