Looking to visit Amarillo area

I haven't been to Texas in many years and have never carried in the state. I'm looking for any info and suggestions on best way to carry so as not to have problems. I'm also curious if anyone might have some suggestions on what there is to do in Amarillo as I've only visited the San Antonio area with my family.

Must be carried concealed. No open carry in Texas, not yet anyways. So it depends on the time of year you visit as to how you chose to carry. It gets pretty hot so a cover garment like a jacket or vest may not suit you. Their is a duty to inform police anytime your asked for a driver's license or ID. Watch out for the 30.06 signs. These are the specific signs that prohibit concealed carry. In addition bars and such have a 51% sign. Any business that derives more than 50% of it's profits from the sale of alcohol for consumption on site has this sign and you aren't allowed to carry inside there. Restaurants that also serve alcohol are ok to carry in. Only the 30.06 and 51% signs have the force of law behind them. Things to do in Amarillo include the Cadillac Ranch, Route 66 historic district, The Texas Air and Space Museum, Big Texan Opry, American Quarter Horse Museum and Splash Amarillo Water Park. Anything I missed I'm sure others will post for you. Enjoy your visit!

I might just clarify the 30.06 sign... that is the number for the particular law... the sign must be white background, black letters at least one inch high, and they must be in English and Spanish... so there are really two signs side by side. The wording is the exact wording of the particular 30.06 paragraph of the law.
Also, going into a restaurant where they serve alcohol at a bar area, they will have a sign just before you enter the bar area... the sign will be about the size of a sheet of typing paper, and will have a large 51% (shaded letters) as the background to the wording. Just don't go into the bar area, itself...
Charlie gave you a good rundown of the Amarillo entertainment places... especially the Air & Space Museum and the Big Texan Restaurant...

Thank you very much for the not just the info on the law but also on the good areas to go. I do look forward to visiting Texas and seeing more of the wonderful state
