Looking to make a move to Texas

Within the next year I am planning to move to Texas from the super restricted California. My question is what are the rules regarding firearms? I know that things are very liberal there but what about open carry, concelealed carry, 50 cal and automatic weapons.
Thanks

Texas is a fairly restrictive state regarding carrying firearms. You have to pay the state for a permit to carry a concealed handgun, after paying for training, and open carry is generally illegal. No .50 Caliber limits. Automatic firearms are fine. Fully automatic firearms require the Federal tax stamp.

You can keep a loaded handgun concealed in your car without a license, though.

Welcome to Texas. I have a Texas ccw.
As long as you are not prohibited from owning a gun, you may carry concealed in your vehicle and it is legal as long as you have not committed a class b or a misdemenor. A class c violation (mostly traffic violations)
When I say committed those violations, they are not stopping you for them or find drugs in your vehicle that are class a or b violations.
is ok. You are not required to say that you have a firearm in your vehicle. There is no open carry in Texas.
As for the other questions, I can not answer them. I am not an attorney.

Texas is a shall issue state. If you are not disqualified for some legal reason, you must be issued a license. You must be a resident of Texas for at least 6 months.

i have my ccw and live in texas, all posts above are correcy, no open carry, have to have a ccw to carry on ur person and you dont need a ccw to keep a loaded firearm in a car. read the permit info at the top section pf this page for all info for texas carry, its under the conceal carry permit info tab at the top. i too am from california, san diego area to be exact, made the move to texas 4 years ago...

Actually they removed the six month residency requirement.

Is it a sign that the two answers from Texas have such poor grammar and sentence structure as to be almost incoherent?

Not sure if it is Washington DC or Washington State, but is it a sign that a person with poor grammer does not have the right to speak in Washington. I am pretty sure I woke up this morning under the US flag.

Howdy from the great state of Texas!
I am not proud to say this, but I am also a native from that land of fruitcakes and nutjobs (California). My family and I moved to Texas for numerous reasons. One of the reasons was to get the hell away from many of their ignorant Anti-2nd Amendment laws.

If you are not a far left leaning LibTarded nutjob with a socialist mindset, then 'Welcome to Texas' :yes4:.

However, If you are some sort of a LibTarded (Nancy Pelosi liking) nutjob, then please stay the hell out of the greatest state in the Union.

Texans don't take too kindly to those few mentally challenged LibTarded Morons who are allready living out here. :crazy_pilot:

Texas is NOT a gun-friendly state. They hold your 2nd Amendment rights for ransom, and then call it a "privilege" to carry concealed. No handgun open carry allowed, yet you can walk down the street with a loaded rifle. Frakking absurd...

Well, at least one of those replies was made by someone from California that relocated to Texas. I still think we should close and patrol the California border.

I think I need to think about moving to Texes myself, presently live in Illinois. No carry allowwed
Based on what I've read, New Mexico, or maybe Arizona is the place to go. :)

Now, we have OC in Michigan without needing a license. But you do need a license to carry concealed, or to OC in your vehicle. Also, certain places are verbotten to OC, unless you have a Concealed Pistol License.

Just don't take your weapon to a bar, a church, a medical facility, or a stadium. And if you forget your gun is in your bag when you enter a secure area of an airport instead of just a fine from the TSA you'll be charged with a felony under Texas State law.

Do they have all those restriction in state law in California?

Oh, and you have to renew your cc too.

Many people have their opinions about the Great State of Texas. we're country folk, we're uneducated, we're whatever you wanna say. Just remember, when it comes to gunlaws in Texas, use common sense. As stated above you cannot open carry. no cc in a bar, government building, sporting event(even outdoor), under any covered portion of a school(covered would be considered inside the school),most hospitals, convienece store where alcohol is sold, or where correctly posted. Correctly posted means letters are one inch by one inch, in contrasting colors(with the background), must be english AND spanish, must be posted at every entrance to the building. If its not correctly posted the sign is not valid.

Oh! I almost forgot. you can carry as many guns as you want, and as much ammo as you want, as long as it remains concealed.

Oh, we can do that in Michigan too, but they don't have to stay concealed. Still, I have to say, Texas has a lot in it's favor. A better economy for one thing.

Welcome to Texas, enjoy your visit, then take your anti gun, anti take care of yourself, liberal voting ass back home. To harsh, I am sorry, see your shrink, take an anti depressent but go away.

You know, people in states with more freedoms carrying firearms then Texas allows could say the same thing about Texans.....
