looking into better end compact 1911

Ok, so with the holidays approaching I've been investigating into a better end 1911 compact,and with the economy and our country in such a pristine state, oh and me being of sound mind and judgement I figured uuuhhhhh OK ITS A GOOD IDEA!!!!. So I've been reviewing and shooting the kimber ultra, the colt defender and just reviewing the para ordnance slim hawg. Truly loved the kimber-it truly was one of the nicest handling compacts I've ever shot period( then you hear the war stories that if they're good they're really good BUT if you get a bad one Lord help you and this came from the owner of the kimber I was shooting). Colt was basically the same thing,really liked it maybe not quite as much but still one awesome weapon and then the IF ITS A GOOD ONE factor shows up with it and the para ordnance also,you read threads all over the web and basically it's the same.OK WHAT am I missing here???? So the more expensive the firearm the less quality control they have? I know everyone has there opinion but is there a logical explanation for this and yes any good info would be appreciated.THANKS

I have trouble with spelling things. Some time when I have a lot to post I write on Word and then spell check, cut and paste. The program points out common issue and mistakes. Just an idea.

OK, now to the meat of the question, Kimber Ultra. No issues in ten years +.

I bought a Sig Ultra Carry. With approx 700 rds through it only 2 fte and that was w/in the first 200 rds. I like the fact that no tools needed to break it down. Love the gun. Check it out.

I also bought a Sig 1911 Ultra. So far about 250 rounds and no issues. Very accurate for a 3" barrel. It is just as good and accurate as my full size Colt 1911 Mark IV series 80.

Of course this is just opinion based on the fact that I own many of the guns you reference.

I chose a Colt Mk IV for my carry weapon. I wanted a series 80 for protection from dropping etc. , otherwise I prefer the 70 Series. In addition the Mk IV came to me at a reasonable price and I did not have to feel guilty about daily carry of an expensive firearm providing reliability was not the trade off. I have to say that Colt just seems to produce a great and reliable 1911. I leave the Kimber, Sig and Wilson in my safe for recreational use. While the Colt gets the call daily as the work horse. I use an IWB Crossbreed and once you get use to the weight it is pretty comfortable. As to quality control, I think the 1911's want to have a touch of slop. When you buy an expensive gun you get much tighter tolerance which means that everything needs to be perfect to operate. This is why you hear of issues with the high end guns. My Kimber has minimal slide movement and the quality of the machining is apparent, the Colt literally rattles when shaken. I believe the Colt has a better record with me by never having experienced a failure of any type. I cannot say that about any other than my Wilson. But the Wilson has 2k rounds through it while the Colt is likely seen 10k or better. Link Removed

I have a Colt Defender that I'm very happy with. I had a New Agent that I liked even more, but I was so trained to focus on the front sight, not having a front sight to focus on, was disruptive.
