If you want to shoot various scenarios with silhouette targets at various distances, some moving, some holding hostages, shoot from cover, shoot through windows, etc. then check out the nearest IDPA chapter to where you live.
International Defensive Pistol Association Lots of variety in targets and situations. It's a blast. You can get a primer on IDPA matches (don't let that word intimidate you) by checking out
PowerFactor Show and by searching you tube.
If you are looking for training classes; I highly recommend these two places in southern California:
Civilian Arms Training Source - Tactical Firearms Training and check out there Tactical Pistol level 1 and 2 classes. They teach the CAR system created by the late Paul Castle, and it's REALLY excellent! Highly Recommended! Check it out on you tube. If you go to any gun show (check their schedule on the civilian arms training website) visit their booth and purchase a training voucher for $40. That plus a $20 co-pay the day of the class gives you a $140 class for only $60. Best deal in the state.
Another good place for training is Firearms Training Associates
Welcome To The Firearms Training Associates' Website | Firearms Training Associates . They teach a modified isosceles stance, have a really good CCW class, and they have a great tactical shotgun class.
I've attended training from both groups and both have excellent instructors. Between the two, I think Civilian Arms Training offers the best, most versatile, and most practical style of pistol craft, and at a price that can't be beat.
I hope that helps.
