Just sold my Taurus snubby looking to replace with another revolver. I had the Charter Arms Pitbull in .40 thinking of getting it back. Have the G23 and the G27 and another .38 was thinking of staying with the .40 or going with a .357. Looking at the Taurus Protector Poly .357 or the Ruger SP101 or LCR or the Charter Arms Pitbull. Need some HELP

I have the Ruger LCR 357 model for my EDC and love it. If you are considering the Ruger by all means spend the extra $50 bucks and get the 357.

How are you with follow up shots with the .357? .38 special +p is not bad at all.

Ahh, I just can't get over how ugly the LCR is! OP, either one of the revolvers you mentioned would likely serve you very well.

I have a SP101 .357mag 2.25" barrel, A Smith model 60 pro series .357mag 3" barrel, and an LSR in .38spl. I carry the Smith or SP in a Simply Rugged IWB pancake. The LCR is mostly pocket carried. Any of these guns are great carry pieces.

Had the 357 LCR and too much recoil to be controllable as well as muzzle flash. Have the lcr 38 special version and it's 4 ounces lighter and managable too. I'd try that or the 22 mag version it a fun.

just 'bout the action boss...

With the 22 mag can you shoot 22 lr thru it also or just st f alight 22 mag don't mind that being that I have a .38 just may not carry as much

Not too bad with the follow up shots. I can place 5 rapid fire rounds in a 5-6 inch center mass circle at 7 yards. The .357 isn't something that I use as a normal target practice round, since it is a handful. For target practice I will use the .38+P. The .357 I usually do the 5 rounds once at the range the rest are the .38+P. I carry the .357HP as only a self defense load, if I can hit a 5-6 inch circle with that load that should stop just about anyone.

I know I can carry the Pitbull IWB no problem if I do .357 the SP101 kind of heavy want something I can carry also

Rossi 462 is a great revolver for the money. Ruger sp101 great choice, as is the S&W m686 (6 or 7 shot), model 649 shrouded (DA/SA), or model 640 3" or hammerless version. Airweights are not fun to shoot (I own a Smith 442 and LCR 38). The key to shooting revolvers well is practice, practice, practice. Stay with a little more weight to assure fun practice and more consistent follow-up shots. Having the option of 357 mag is OK, but the increase in performance over a 38 Special+P with a 2" barrel is minimal (try the Gold Dot 38 +P for short barrel revolvers). At night, excessive flare from the 2" barrel of a magnum discharge may be a problem. In an enclosed area - as car jacking situation or indoor room or hallway, the pressure of the magnum discharge could result in some hearing loss or damage to the inner ear. Stay with a high quality Manufacturer, pay a little more, and buy your snubby only once. The S&W 640 hammerless (357 stainless) is a great compromise between concealability and shootability. I only carry 357 180 gr magnums in my S&W m28 6" for animal protection when travelling in bear country. Practicing with 38 special is ok, but if you carry magnums practice with them in volume. If you are used to "mild" practice rounds, the increased recoil of magnums could be disconcerting in a sudden defensive situation. Practice heavily with your carry ammo!
