Thank you for the help

Have her contact her cell provider. They should probably have an investigative division that could track the idiot down.

Pictures don't have GPS coordinates attached to them. The only way that he could find her address is if she told him, or if he could find out her identity via a reverse phone look-up or matching her picture to her identity.

Actually, they have geocache info in the meta data.
You can switch this function off on the iPhone, don't know about android devices.
Pictures are (or can be) geo tagged, which would include GPS data as to when and where a picture has been taken.
Watch your six.

Something about this story doesn't add-up...
Sounds like the last newbie with the detailed road rage story. The key is in the level of detail. This is called "poster baiting," a form of trollism by the left anti-gun folks.
.
If the girl is stupid enough to send the photo? And if the brother is stupid enough to take it into his own hands? Sounds like it runs in the family.

oh boy, I should have known a hard core conspiracy theorist would chime in. I'm not a troll, I'm sorry I don't whore my post count, unlike most people when I feel I have nothing helpful to add to a topic I don't post, and most threads on here are already saturated with people arguing.

I have sense calmed down, but I posted this thread right after hearing from my sister and my blood was boiling so I wasn't thinking straight.

I did want to call this guy and threaten him but after calming down i told her to block this guys number.

But I'm still worried that the images have EXIF/geocaching data. How can I verify her phone isn't attaching GPS to the images? It's an android.

Not a conspiracy theorist; a personal protection instructor. You're both doing everything you shouldn't. Never send a photo to someone unless you know with absolute certainty who it is. Block the number and move-on. Should you make contact with him and it eventually escalates into something bad you can lose your right to self-defense. For this reason never act purely on anger. Rethink the actions before making any decision. That's the proper advice any certified PP instructor will give you. That's the course syllabus. There. Better?
.
BTW, I don't whore my post count, the forum displays it by default. Four posts and you already know "most threads on here are already saturated with people arguing?" You just slipped-up. You've obviously been around longer than four posts to know that's true. Now I absolutely believe you're a baiter. What's your other ID?

You are correct, but as you say the option must be turned on as it is disabled by default, at least with Androids.
To check if it's enabled in an Android you just go to your camera, go to settings and check if "Location tag" or "GPS tag" is off.

We know never to send information of any kind to someone you don't know, She thought it was a family member and he played the part convincingly enough to get a picture out of her.

As I stated in my post I already told her to block the number and move along, I get pissed off sometimes and it gets the better of me.

Thank you for the advice!

I did not slip up, if you where to do a little more digging you would see that I have been here sense 2013, I frequent this form a lot, I like to stay informed and there have been a lot of things posted here before anywhere else. There is also a lot of great information on this forum so I keep coming back. Like I said, i only post when I feel i can contribute something helpful which is obviously never, be it because the thread degraded or I just don't know.

Then accept my apologies. We get a lot of this kind of stuff from the crazies.

Please note that this newbie responds to people questioning him in the exact same manner the last one did

Eldolon again to clarify I saw what appeared to be the handle of a small caliber firearm in his rear pocket. He then reached for what I believed to be the aforementioned firearm. He never drew the weapon from his pocket where it was in plain sight but as I saw his shoulder lift and being in a tactical stance and from what I believe I had previously seen and especially his comment of "I'll drop you so fast you'll be dead before you know it" I think I had enough information to realize I needed to get my ass back in my vehicle and move on ASAP which I did.
.
So Eldolon what gives? Are you the self appointed Abmasador of the Bull$h1T police? I simply made some bad decisions and reached out to the community for advice. I'm grateful to all to l those that have done so. Again, I expected to take heat for making some stupid decisions but I have never experienced anything like this before. Thanks for your support!!!

Could you please tell me how to respond next time? Should I have just said go **** yourself? ok, go **** yourself.

You people are so damn paranoid its amazing! I understand there are tolls, please tell me what I'm trolling, and what am I getting out of this? I was done with this thread 3 posts ago so lock it, I'm sick of you paranoid people.

Why would I create that account in 2012, and then this one in 2013, and only AFTER 2-3 years start trolling? Mods feel free to compare my IP.

You really want the mods viewing your posts telling people to go ---- themselves? A clear violation of the terms of use? Why? The action IS the juice.

Whatever the story being challenged/questioned is, this is a valid and important question for anyone concerned with phone security/privacy issues, so I'm just going to answer the question.

I took the following picture to show stewie-Y how GPS data can be embedded in any given picture's EXIF information. I read subsequently that he already knew about it, which makes me not understand his post depicted in the picture, but anyway, since I just had to go into my phone to turn on GPS tagging with its camera to create the following example, I know where to find it (in the Kit-Kat 4.4.2 version of Android anyway). So here's the pic and how the info appears to an EXIF reader:

To check your sister's phone to see if that function is active, first go to "Settings" and scroll until you see the "Location" label ("GPS" in some older versions of Android, though I'm not sure the following options are available in them). Tap that option and the app's menu opens. Under "Location Services" look to see if there's a check-mark in the box next to "Camera." If there is, that phone tags every picture with the GPS coordinates where it was taken, as long as the "Location" or "GPS" function is turned on. Even if the box is checked, but "Location" is turned off, this is all that will be tagged, which is not accurate BTW because my altitude is higher than zero meters above sea level:

There ya go.
