The officer discusses cops speeding.... Owning "assault rifles"...

And I cannot wait until Navy reads what he says about OC.

I in no way endorse this article.

Ask a cop: Why the anonymity? | ksl.com

Read and enjoy.

I think I know one thing he will say...

It continues to be true, that the misinformation continually comes from police, instructors, and gun shop owners. I don't see this article changing that.

Couple of things I got from the article.

1) I doubt that the article is written by a real police officer.
2) I'd like to see what an AR-15 with a "30 round clip" looks like. Must be difficult to shoot.
3) Coming from an extremely "gun friendly" state, I'm surprised at many of the comments.

I am 100% in agreement w/ this guy WRT the speeding cops thing.Speed cop, speed get the hell out of my AO so i can speed too.

The gun thing? Not so much

I do not think this was written by an officer.

Do I need an AR-15 with a 30 round "clip"? Well actually, my Bushmaster XM15-M4 type carbine is not an AR-15 originally developed by Armalite and then sold to the Army who created the M16 out of it. And my 30 round magazine? It's actually not that much ammo, and to live in a free society, the least I could ask for is 30 bullets to save my life.

Oh ya Anonymous Idiot, did you forget about the North Hollywood bank robbery and shootout in the 90s? The suspects were armed to the teeth and covered in body armor that the police could not penetrate which is why it is now standard for police to carry rifles in their cars.

The fact that the author is anti-assault rifle and would like CCers to inform LEOs that they are so-armed makes me think he is a cop. That pretty much mirrors the sentiment of cops that I've talked to concerning those very subjects.

I also find it highly unlikely that a major news outlet (they're an NBC affiliate) would risk their credibility by faking something so trivial. It would be pointless for them to lie about having a LEO write an article.

However, there are many cops that have said they do not think you should notify if not required, and many encounters where people have informed and the cop did not say anything nor care at all. So we cant generalize a few hundred thousand law enforcement officials on this. Same for "assault" rifle views and everything else.

I agree 100%. The cops I've talked to concerning this have advised me not to volunteer the info just to avoid any potential hassle from a rookie or skittish LEO. However, they personally would like to be informed as a matter of preference. I touched on this subject last week in another thread.

True. I'm just going by what the half-dozen or so cops that I talk to have to say about it. Based on discussions I've had, the article sounds like it could have been written by any one of them. But concerning assault rifles I think you'll find that most LE organizations as a whole are against them (ditto for the 5.7 guns and anything that will easily defeat body armor). They are here in Florida.

I don't agree with the author concerning ARs but I do understand his rationale, especially if he's a police officer. I just believe that my POV is better

Yup.....he certainly wouldn't care too much for my AR or my 4 AKs, but he/she is just voicing their opinion like everyone on this website. No different from a "Dear Abby" column.

Wasnt there a thread on some forum on some website that has delt with officer notification? And a cop who believes citizens shouldnt own so called assault weapons? Naw, it couldnt be. All cops believe that anyone should be able to own any gun they want. One other thing, anybody want to buy a bridge?

I don't think it was written by an officer as he used incorrect terms and basically it just didn't read like "cop speak". My dad is a retired officer and I grew up around cops my entire life, they generally don't mess up clips and mags, and it just didn't "feel" right...so I have my doubts....

Interesting article, but do you really think there are OCers who do so just 'cause it makes them feel important....like tough guys (or gals)??? Naaaaaah.....couldn't be!

Yep.

I think B2Tall wrote it

Yep x2!

I'm pretty sure it was written by a police officer.... just not a good one.

I'm guessing it was written by a professional writer who interviewed cops and then polished their answers. In essence a ghost writer.

And B2Tall

Of course you don't think there really could be CC'ers out there who CC because it makes them feel invincible because they have the magical super special ninja talisman "element of surprise"??? Naaaaaah.... couldn't be!

See how that urinating in each other's Cheerios goes? Big deal. Let's just move on.
