Live in Georgia, church in TN?

So I live right across the state line in GA, but work in Chattanooga and go to church in Chattanooga.

I pretty much know how it goes as far as work, but what about carrying in church? I have 4 friends that all carry during services, but they all have TN handgun permits. In GA, you're not (yet) allowed to carry in a church. But doesn't TN law take over once I cross the state line?

If TN has reciprocity with GA, meaning that you are still legal to carry while in TN, the laws in TN would apply while there. That is why it is important to know what different state requirements are if you travel.

Ok cool. That's what I thought. Tennessee does have reciprocity with Georgia.

If your carry permit is honored in the state your are actually in, you obey the laws of the state you are in, not those of the issuing state.

if TN law permits guns in church and if TN honors/reciprocated with GA then you are good to go, as long as you are within the local laws of a state that honors your permit you are ok

I've been searching for this answer, but its not clearly defined. A simple "always follow whatever state you're in" appears to be common sense, but I have not found it stated.

The laws of GA have no power in TN.

I live in NC, which has OC. If I go to SC, which does not have OC, would you expect that the fact I am a NC resident would allow me to OC in SC? Conversely, a SC resident can OC while they are in NC.

Also keep in mind that laws tell us what we CANNOT do, and very seldom to they tell us what we CAN do. NC is an OC state based on the fact there is no law forbidding OC, so it is legal. SC and others have laws that forbid OC, so it is illegal in those states.

Just think about who will be enforcing the law. If you are in one state, would you expect them to be well versed in the laws of another state?

If the original geo-graphers had placed the TN-GA line on the 35th parallel like they were supposed to, you *probably* wouldn't have this problem!
