Listen to LEO's if confronted.

Not being there or knowing the circumstance or reviewing the incident report. I can only go by what the media has posted. BUTT with that said, IF at anytime ordered by LEO's to drop your weapon and you don't expect lead poisoning. NO DOUBT in my mind........Argue in court, not on the street.

Yep, far safer to argue in court but I doubt if he had complied if it even would have gone there. Gun might have been seized as evidence for a short period of time and then returned.

Maine with an attitude like that you will be the next suicide-by-cop incident that we will hear about. Until the police secure the crime scene, they have all the probable cause /reasonable suspicion they need to enter your property and disarm you. You can choose to disarmed alive or dead, that is your only choice!

Where I live not a issue.

I'm all about rights--- but not sure if this is a rights thing or a common sense thing. Shots fired police show up your holding a gun. Come on the common sense thing applies here.

Your post is wrong The home owner listened to the police but he did not comply with their orders. And as we all know when Police tell you to drop your gun you better drop your gun before they let the bullets fly.

When the police walk into a situation like this they don't automatically know the facts. Follow their orders; or they might assume you're the intruder. They don't know if you shot a friend or even a relative with whom you've had an argument. You might have shot a neighbor in a dispute. The police know that appearances can be deceiving. Following their orders might hurt your pride but it is most likely better than being dead.

In the very rural area where I live I know most of the deputy sheriffs; and they know me. The sheriff knows I have a carry permit, because he signed it. There is far less chance of a fatal error. The last thing a LEO wants is to face is an armed person with a really bad attitude in an unknown situation.

Comply or die, the new American way.

Of course that depends on whom is faster and more accurate.

Just speaking hypothetical here. A bg enters you're home you shoot said intruder in you're home with you're handgun. In doing so you have rendered yourself deaf for the next half hour or so with you're ears ringing. A LE or two show up not hearing anything you turn see two more intruders and drop em both. Only then when approaching them to be sure they have been secured do you SEE uniforms. As LE's should they not know if you where just in a gunfight inside a home you are going to be hearing impaired?

With response times by LEO how they are, some hearing is going to be returning, LEO response with lights and sirens it kinda makes it obvious who just arrived at your home, whether you are in town or live in the country. Their show of force during arrival is designed to intimidate and notify.

That said the OP link stated the guy was a hoarder, this is usually a symptom of a mental disorder and can create confusion in the mind of the individual. Without being there, without know what the home owner was doing with his weapon, without knowing directly how he was responding to police presence and requests, we can arm chair quarterback this all season and never know whether we were right or wrong.

There are too many questions that need answered and the only one who can answer them is dead.

Anytime you have a cop around you better be very careful what you do. Around here and many other cities, they have a habit of just shooting first and checking the facts later.
