LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty University's board of trustees will consider lifting a ban on carrying concealed weapons on campus.

Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Thursday that the proposed policy change will be discussed at the board's next meeting, which is set for early March.

The proposal would allow permit holders to carry concealed weapons on campus. Falwell said the proposed change was requested by Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.

The local chapter's president, Liberty senior Ben Neiman, said the group has most more than 300 members. Most are students, staff and faculty.

Falwell said the 38-member board may not make a decision, but it will consider the proposal.
