Less guns?

I am running into more people at the range that are selling off most of their guns. I know a guy who sold his Ruger SR9c, his Ruger snubby .38, and a .45 semi-auto which left him with a S&W MP9 full size, a Bersa .380 and a Ruger LCR .22 Mag
Another person sold two 9mm's and a .40 to only keep a .38 snubby and a .380.

I am seeing quite a bit of this. So it means people are downsizing their gun collections. Of course I would also bet some of the people buying the guns may not own any gun. So it also shows more people are becoming gun owners.

How many here plan to sell off some of their guns? Myself, I'm fine with what I own.

Said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again... guns are like tattoos; you always want at least one more!

Granted, I know a couple who sold a gun to pay for their kid's medical bills. Times are hard, and selling a gun can help out.

It means some people are downsizing. I only have 4 guns anyway (.410/ 12guage / .30.30/ Jframe)
But I could see limiting myself to one caliber on hand guns so I may by a K frame later but I wouldn’t buy a 9MM

Over the last year I've sold 3 handguns and a rifle. I have bought 2 handguns and an upper. Guns are bought and sold all the time.

I was trying to sell a Ruger SR40c and a Rock Island Armory 1911 because I needed some money to last through the year. I've since found other avenues, however, and am no longer looking to sell. The last gun I did sell was a Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact that I sold for money to put towards an AR-15.

HA! That's funny, because I once sold a gun so I could get a tattoo! LOL My wife would probably sell all of her guns to pay for me having Trixie's portrait removed too. Link Removed

Just read that there were more than a million (1.3, I believe) background checks during the month of November.

I have a problem, I've been acquiring quite a few of both.

I don't want a large standing gun safe in my home so I do not buy a lot of guns. Have a .380 and a .32 acp and happy with them.
I don't believe in more than 3 or 4 handguns. Just want something for home defense and to carry. But that is just what I like.

I need to get a purple Charter Arms .38 for my wife, a Springfield XD .45 (4.5"), a Remington 870 Express tactical w/Blackhawk tactical stock, and, when Publisher's Clearinghouse finally comes to my door, a Savage 110BA in .338 lapua mag w/ trijicon tr23-2 or nightforce b.e.a.s.t. scope.

Not planning on selling any guns any time soon (not that I have that many to begin with).

Having limited funds helps decide weather or not to buy more guns, LOL but at this time I do have a fairly small collection, but they are all good stuff, no junk 1911s, and Glocks, a couple of nice bugs, and master blaster a S&W 500, mama don't like the 500 she's afraid of it, ammos exspensve as hell, it can hurt your ear's but it is one cool sob to fire,

My feeling is that if I haven't shot it in the last 20 years, I could probably sell it. If I make it another 19 1/2 years, I'll let you know how that goes.

Need to stop "collecting." Every one seems to be the "last one."

I have sold guns, but only for the purposes of obtaining others.

I have regretted selling every gun that I have sold. I don't sell any guns any more.

Same here. Only sold one a couple of decades ago as trade in for newer one. Looking for a couple more till the safe is full... then time for another safe I guess. One has to have a hobby.

Another one is due to arrive on Monday.

And as for guns that I own that haven't been shot in a while, there are two locked up that have not been fired in my lifetime and are better than 75 years old. One was my grandfather's and the other my great grandfather's. Far as I know, my father never fired either of them and my grandfather never fired is father's.

Your supposition is just that, your supposition. It could mean that you have just met some people at your range who would like to sell off some of their guns. It could also mean that the ones who bought them are increasing their collection and not new gun owners (which would invalidate your notion that people are downsizing their collections. It just means some are while others aren't.). I'm not sure how you make the connection that a) some people are reducing their collection to both b) people in general are and c) there are more new gun owners are out there because of it.

Regardless, to answer your question, in the last 5 years my collection has gotten bigger not smaller.

I have regretted selling every gun that I have sold. I don't sell any guns any more.

The only times I've sold off a firearm is to get an improvement on the one that I have had.

For example I had a Sears "Ted Williams" signature 20 ga. pump (only smooth bore with a polychoke). I sold it to get a Mossberg 500 Field/Deer combo 20 ga (rifled and smooth bore barrels).

This was an improvement because now I have the smooth bore that I can go hunting for fowl, but I also have the rifled barrel to hunt deer. I tried putting in a rifled slug in the Sears. Accuracy was awful. I tried looking for a rifled barrel ($265).

The Mossberg combo, on sale, was $280 and I got $100 for the 20 ga. Yeah, I could have sold it for more, but it was to a friend.

I agree with you however, for the most part, parting with a firearm is regrettable.
