LEO Visit To My Office -- Inform them of My CCL and weapon?

I would inform them. Its always good for the officers to know that you are carrying.

That's gonna start a pissing contest

Seriously, if you already are I don't see the harm in continuing the paractice. If you are not I wouldn't bother. As NLCDR pointed out you aren't being stopped

I'd ask this over at OFCC. I think you'll get better advice there.

My inclination is no, you're not required. They're not *stopping* you for an LE purpose.
Exactly. They need to stop you for some law enforcement purpose.

If you're a fry cook and they're ordering a burger, you have no duty to inform.

If you're pulled over by a cop on the road, you have a duty to inform.

If one of them asks you if you seen subject A, it's a gray area. I'd inform.

And remember, in Ohio inform even if you have to shout over the cop. They have an ugly habit of stopping people from informing, then charging them for OBEYING their ORDERS. Google "Danel Harless Canton Police Department". The same thing happened previously in Beachwood, Ohio.

Why?
Is it always good for the checkout girl at Giant Eagle to know that you're carrying?
How about the counter guy at Mister Hero?
If not, why not?

And that is exactly my question as well.

I would inform them. Its always good for the officers to know that you are carrying.

I can not understand this need that some people have to inform complete strangers of their concealed firearms and permits. If I am carrying concealed, I do not see any reason to inform strangers that I come into contact with about my gun or my permit. Unless a police officer has detained me under suspicion of committing a violation or infraction, they are nothing more to me than a complete stranger. And, if an officer has detained me, I will continue to treat them as a complete stranger to the maximum extent allowed by law.

I have had LEOs visit my office with appointments on occasion, and will continue to do so in the future. In every case, they are there on official LEO business. When they enter my office and I stand to greet them, am I required to inform them of my CHL and that I am armed? I am in Ohio.

I've looked online for an answer and not found one. Any help would be appreciated.

The reasons they are visiting me are immaterial to this discussion.

Thanks,
W8ASA

Your last statement is very wrong. The reasons they are visiting you are very material to this discussion. Based on your vagueness, I would assume this is more like a psychology-type visit, which may be official but is a far cry from what the "shall inform" or "must inform" portions of most CCW laws are all about. Use some common sense here, if they are not seeing you on "official business" relating to laws, crimes, etal they are not there to hear you tell them you are CC nor I they there to test your allegiance to the law by not informing.

That quoting of law does seem to indicate that the statute in question envisions a random encounter between citizen and LEO. A scheduled professional appointment, official police business or not, falls outside its scope. Don't inform.

An email to the Chief should be a quick way to clear up any confusion.

The only thing an email to the Chief will clear up is what his personal opinion is on the matter, which more likely than not will NOT be in accordance with the actual statute requires or does not require.
