Legal open carry in a Motorhome!

During my recent CC class I had a question for my instructors to clear up for me. What are the laws concerning having guns in a motorhome, camping trailer, pop-up, fifth wheel, etc? My instructors were very knowledgeable and I believe they were giving me correct information. They stated that your 'home' is wherever you are residing at the time. While in one off these 'dwellings' I have mentioned you have the same rights as you would have in your traditional residence. If you have a handgun laying on your table or a 12ga pump standing in the corner you are Legal. Step outside of the 'dwelling' you may be in a different situation! Of course if you have CC and are carrying a handgun in a state you are legal to carry in you would be legal. I also assume you are legal to have a gun laying on the seat next to you in a motorhome when underway as although moving, you are in your 'home'.

I'd love for others to give their thoughts on this subject and especially if any information I have stated may be wrong........Nail

I would guess you have assumed incorrectly.
Once in motion it would be a motor vehicle, no longer a dwelling.
I could be wrong, but things usually change when under power.

What state are you in with your motorhome? The laws obviously vary state by state so the answer of what's legal and what's not will vary. Some states may consider your motorhome your home and others consider it a vehicle. Also, some states allow vehicle carry without a concealed handgun permit. Another element is where is your motorhome parked? Privately owned campground, Federal or state park? Your question may have been specific to the state where you reside, but I didn't see a state listed.

It varies state to state but in Washington, an RV is considered a dwelling and you are ok to have a firearm within.

I am in Illinois, but of course travel thru several states.

The answer is going to be dependent on which state you are in. Here in Texas your vehicle is an extension of your home.

Thanks for that. It has clear explanation of the law in every state. Perfect! Nail

If you are a member of GoodSam or the Escapees RV clubs they usually have information & resources that are helpful as well. There should also be a direct link to a particular State's statutes on the above site.

I know some here think I'm a outlaw of sorts but as I have said several times, I keep at least two guns on me at all times except in bed and then there not far, at home, driving, on the motorcycle, and since I have no intention of even traveling through any dumba** states like NY, I don't have to worry about it, as to the OP question each states are a bit different, however if the state your in allows guns in the home, then you would most likely be good to go in your motor home
