LCP recoil question

My wife would like to start carrying. We went to a couple of LGS' s and she likes the size of the LCP. She doesn't want anything larger based on being able to conceal it on her curvey waist. Unfortunately there isn't any place local to rent one for her to actually try one out.

She is comfortable shooting my SCCY 9mm (double stack 3in barrel) for about 50 rounds, then starts getting sore. Racking isn't a concern, as she has plenty of hand strength for that.

We would like some input, especially from other ladies, as to how they feel about the recoil.

I will say that if your wife's hand gets sore with the Sccy she will probably not like the LCP Granted the .380 is less powerful the smaller grip transfers all the recoil to a much smaller surface. maybe try a revolver they tend to fit women s curves a lil better :) My wife love's her Taurus 85 poly.

As long as she can shoot it long enough to be accurate with it, maybe she can get something else to practice with?

Also, is it her hand that gets sore, or her wrist? I know someone who got weight lifter's gloves, and those kept her hands decently cushioned so she was able to practice comfortably. If it's her wrist, taping it for more support might help, but I've never tried that so it's just a guess.

Another option would be an aftermarket recoil spring for either the SCCY or the LCP. I have a friend that replaced the spring in his LCP with one from Wolff gun springs www.gunsprings.com and it greatly reduced the 'sting' from that little gun. It's a lot harder to rack now, but if your Mrs. has good hand strength like you say it shouldn't be an issue.

That could be a real good option. It's good to know.

I replaced my 8lb factory LCp spring with 13lb spring from wolf and recoil is at least 1/3 less.

I would recommend the 11lb spring. The 13lb might make to hard or we to rack the slide

Forget the LCP and get a Kel Tec P-32 in .32 acp. it is a much better option with less recoil. At close range the .32 acp will do the job.

I'm new to the forum, but not to guns. I've shot the LCP and didn't mind the recoil, but I also don't mind the recoil shooting a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 4 5/8" barrel and max handloads. The LCP may be a bit much for her. My wife enjoyed shooting a Bersa .380. It's a little bulkier and heavier, but still easily slips into a purse or a dedicated fanny pack. Just my $.02.
