Illinois is horrible. They dont recognize any concealed carry, obviously. I own property there so I read up on how to transport firearms. They want your guns to be unloaded, in a case. Also you cant be within reach of any ammo. They prefer that you take the gun apart too. This could be hard to do on a bike. I would put ammo and the barrel in one saddle bag and the rest of your gun in the other. Or if youre in a group, have one rider carry guns and another carry ammo. They really want you defenseless.

My dad was almost arrested in IL because he had an unloaded, uncased shotgun on the backseat of his truck. He didnt have any shells in the truck which is the only reason he wasnt arrested.

I should mention that somebody I know drives everywhere with a loaded .45 under his seat, and this includes IL. If you dont get pulled over and searched then it doesnt becomes an issue. However thats your decision to make.

Have fun on your trip.

Thanks Brian...We do have three bikes on this trip so I guess we could split up the guns & ammo. Like you said that will make us completely defenseless to the thuds that don't obey the laws anyway!! What a crimial friendly state.

I don't know the purpose of your trip. The last time my travels were to take me through Illinois I decided to circumvent the problem but circumventing the whole state! (I would only be hitting the southern most part, so the detour only added about 3 hours to the trip) If you have destinations in those states then that isn't possible, so I'd double check the states website for gun laws and sites like handgunlaw and USACarry's section on gun laws. There is no such thing as too much research, when it comes to your freedom, and keeping yourself free (such as staying out of prison on a trumped up charge or accidental mistake).

We just came back from Tennessee an hour ago. 'Am resting now so I decided to come here and saw your post. We know the rules and laws of Illinois so we moved our guns at the back of our SUV with the magazines unloaded. It was a good 9 hours from Tennessee to St. Louis but we managed not to get caught...As for Wisconsin, a good while back, I asked about carrying in Oshkosh, WI. I was told that you can open carry in that state. Also if you are in motorcycle, that is the only vehicle you can be allowed to carry. But not in a car...any other way...Please correct me if I am wrong. I had stopped going to EAA because of that regulations. I am just one of those that Oshkosh lost a business to...so what the heck? I hope when Walker finished with his fight with the unions over there he'd tackle the gun laws. Until then, most of our airplane club members will be glad to miss Oshkosh...

Whenever I need to cross a gun hostile state I try to fill up and eat prior to entering that state. I do my damnedest to avoid spending a cent in those states. If I can I will leave a note to that effect in the state info kiosks upon entering the state. I also try to avoid going to those states on vacation if I can (not always possible when living on the west coast with CA looming and friends who live there)

I want to make it clear to them that since they deprive me of my right to defend myself, I will do my best to deprive them of their tax revenue.

I would recommend to unload gun and put into a locked case when you travel through IL.... Its not worth to try....end up in jail for approximately 25 for carry a loaded firearm.... Have a safe trip my friend..
